ABOUT CAMISOLE NO. 4
Camisole No. 4 is a feminine summer top in a bohemian style.
The decorative increases on the front sections make the top fit beautifully and give character, whilst the
ribbed pattern combined with the yarn texture create an almost crocheted look.
The top is worked top down, which means you have the possibility of adjusting the length to suit your
body.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Remember to work a gauge swatch to ensure that you obtain the gauge using the suggested needle. If
your gauge is off, it will give the top wrong proportions.
The given gauge is measured after washing.
Size guide
Camisole No. 4 is designed to have a negative ease of approx. 2-5 cm [0.75-2 inches].
Measure yourself before beginning in order to choose the correct size for you.
The sizes are based on a chest circumference of approx. 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-
120) cm [31.5-33.5 (33.5-35.5) 35.5- 37.5 (37.5-39.5) 39.5- 43.25 (43.25-47.25 inches] .
Ie: You measure 86 cm [33.75 inches] - 5 cm [4 inches] = 81 cm [29.75 inches]. Meaning that you would
choose a size S. If you are in between 2 sizes, pick the smallest. As the top is worked in a patterned rib, it
is stretchy and will grow with use.
Increases (inc):
The increases are worked to lean either towards the right (M1R) or the left (M1L).
M1R: With your left needle, pick up the bar (between the sts on the right and left needles) from back to
front and knit.
M1L: With your left needle, pick up the bar from front to back and knit through the back loop.
Patterned rib
The top is worked in a patterned rib, similar to a double rib with incorporated seed stitch elements.
Edge stitches
Edge stitches are included in the pattern descriptions and is knitted on the RS and purled on the WS.
Make sure to tighten up you edge stitches to obtain a neat and even edge.
3
BEGIN WORKING THE CAMISOLE HERE
LEFT FRONT
Cast on 4 sts using a provisional cast on method.
Have a look here for how to cast on using the provisional cast on:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETI_hVzXVFc
Knit 1 row.
Work: p1, k2, p1.
Break the yarn and leave sts on hold while working the right front.
RIGHT FRONT
Worked as LEFT FRONT. However, do not break the yarn after completion.
4
FRONT
Now join the two fronts. At the same time continue increasing at the now 4 markers.
1st row: K to the 1st marker, M1R, slip marker, k2, slip 2nd marker, M1L, k to the end of row, now
continue over the left front, k to the 3rd marker, M1R, slip marker, k2, slip 4th marker, M1L, k to the end
of row.
2nd row: P1, *k2, p2* to 1 st before 1st marker, k4, *p2, k2* to 1 st before your 3rd marker, k4, *p2, k2* to
1 st before the end of row, p1.
3rd row: K to 1st marker, M1R, slip marker, k2, slip 2nd marker, M1L, k to 3rd marker, M1R, slip marker,
k2, slip 4th marker, M1L, k to end of row.
4th row: P1, *k2, p2* to 2 sts before 1st marker, k6, *p2, k2* to 2 sts before 3rd marker, k6, *p2, k2* to 1 st
before the end of row, p1.
6th row: P1, k2, *p2, k2* to 1 st before 1st marker, p1, k2, p1, *k2, p2* to 3 sts before 3rd marker, k2, p1,
k2, p1, *k2, p2* to 3 sts before the end of row, k2, p1.
8th row: P1, *k2, p2* to 3 sts before the end of row, k2, p1.
You now have 120 (120) 120 (136) 152 (168) sts on your needles.
Leave the front sts on hold, but do not break the yarn. Now proceed with the back sections. Use a new
skein of yarn.
BACK
Now work the back sections. First work the left section, then the right and afterwards join the two and the
fronts.
LEFT BACK
Work as LEFT FRONT.
RIGHT BACK
Work as LEFT BACK.
5
BODY
Now join the two back sections and the front. At the same time, cast on sts for the armholes and at the
centre back.
TIP! Make sure that the work is not twisted when joining the 3 sections and double check that the RS is
facing outwards on the front and back sections.
Look here for how to cast on using the knit cast on method:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jfkxdMKhHw
The work is now joined and you have 180 (196) 220 (240) 272 (288) sts on your needles.
Continue in pattern until work measures 21 (22) 23 (24) 27 (31) cm [8.25 (8.5) 9 (9.5) 10.5 (12.25)
inches] (or desired length) as measured from the arm holes.
Bind off in rib, k over k and p over p. Make sure to not tighten the bind off too much.
NOTE! Be aware that the recommended yarn grows approx. 3-4 cm [1.25-1.5 inches] when washed. In the
recommended length this is accounted for. If you want to make it longer or shorter, make sure to take this
into account.
STRAPS
Now work the final part of the top; the straps. They are worked as i-cords.
Place the 4 sts from one of your front sections onto a double pointed needle. Attach a new strand of yarn
and work the i-cord strap as follows:
Knit 4 sts, push the sts back to the right tip of the needle (instead of turning as usual). Knit the 4 sts again
- ie. you always work the same 4 sts from the RS.
Continue as described until the straps have the desired length. Leave the straps 2-3 cm [0.75-1 inch(es)]
shorter than would suit you, as they will grow slightly in wash and with use.
TIP! It can be an advantage to wait with attaching the straps to the top until it is washed and blocked. In this
way, you can make sure that they are not too long/ short.
Then sew the 4 sts together with the 4 sts from the provisional cast on on the corresponding back section.
Do this using the Kitchener stitch/grafting method.
6
FINISHING
Now weave in all loose ends.
It is recommended to use duplicate stitches for weaving in ends for the most invisible result.
Take extra care when weaving in the yarn at the centre front neckline, as this spot is particularly in focus
when wearing.
