INTRODUCTION

In this chapter, we explored human diversity in terms related to Latin American civilization.
Starting with the history of the first civilization that arrived on the continent, and later on
describing how they were affected when other civilizations arrived and settled in America.

The effects of Europeans' arrival had significant impacts that led to slavery and marriage
between Indians and Europeans, they also brought slaves from Africa, and this led to new
classifications that were called Mestizos and Mulattos. Indians nowadays are seen as a
marginalized population, but little by little, the perception of them has been changing.

CONCLUSIONS

1. Latin America boasts a diverse array of civilizations, including the Mayas, Incas, and Aztecs,
showcasing the continent's rich cultural tapestry.

2. The European arrival in the Americas catalyzed profound changes in indigenous societies,
ushering in slavery, intermarriage, and the emergence of new social classes like mestizos.
Although indigenous populations have often faced marginalization, there are signs of shifting
perceptions in contemporary times.

3. Indigenous people, as the original inhabitants of the Americas, confronted significant upheaval
with the arrival of Europeans and the influx of African slaves. Despite adversity, some
indigenous communities endeavor to preserve their ancestral traditions while navigating societal
transformations for survival and cultural continuity.
