1. A law student with the mind of a canny entrepreneur.

That was how my aunt

described me last December, when u spent to weeks assisting her in her family-
owned business in a small village called “Tuktuk” in North Sumatra. This experience
has equipped me with an understanding of entrepreneurship and how different
cultures affect it from the sociology aspect, which I am keenly interested in. However,
there is still so much for me to learn. Thus, I determined several strategies to engage
with the communities while also enhancing my knowledge. The universities I am
choosing, Penn State University (“Penn State”) and University of California, Davis
(“UC Davis”), offer outstanding qualities that align with my interests, both in their
courses and communities. I plan to join the International Business Association at
Penn State and the Pilipinx in Business and Law Community at UC Davis. Both
communities will enrich my knowledge, improve my interpersonal skills, and broaden
my network. Learning the cultural characteristics to which people are accustomed is
among my greatest interests. Along with that, I plan to engage in Indonesian
communities by joining Permias at Penn State and UC Davis. Moreover, I intend to
organize an Indonesian Cultural Night with my fellow awardees, where the invites
will be our classmates and friends we make on campus. In this event, we will
introduce Indonesian cuisine and movies to other students. Additionally, I plan to
popularize batik among international students by casually wearing batik clothing
items as daily wear every chance I get. Once I am accepted, I will be fully aware of
the responsibilities I hold and aim to utilize every chance I have to strive to be the
best representative of Indonesian students by actively participating in campus events
and volunteering while putting my academics ahead. Upon returning home, I aspire
to give back by sharing the experience and knowledge that I have gained from my
studies in the States through workshops and educational content on my social media
platforms. I believe that IISMA is an excellent opportunity not only to acquire fruitful
knowledge but also to benefit many others.
