ENVIRONMENT

Part 1:
1. Which country are you from?
I come from Vietnam - a country shaped like the letter S.
2. Where is this country located?
Vietnam is a country located on the eastern (i xtần) edge of the Indochina
peninsula (pờ nin siu lờ), adjacent (ờ chây xần) to the East Sea and is considered
the center of Southeast Asia as it is located at the gateway.
3. Which part of the country do most people live in?
The majority (mờ do rờ tì) of the country's population is concentrated in the capital
Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City, etc (ét xét tờ rờ). Areas with tourist
centers, main commercial (com mơ sồ) centers and government headquarters.
4. What are the main industries in your country?
Agriculture is the country's most important economic sector, both in the past and
present, with the most direct (đờ réc) and strong influence on the country's stability
and development, bringing in large amounts of foreign exchange revenue,
contributing to the country's stability and development, part in enhancing
Vietnam's position and reputation in the international arena (ờ ri nờ).
5. What kind of weather do you dislike?
I don't like humid weather because the weather at this time has increased humidity
(hiu mít đờ ty) in the air, leading to the formation of habitats for pathogens (pa thờ
dần) such as bacteria, viruses and fungi. This can increase the risk of respiratory
(rờ pi rờ tri) diseases such as colds,...
6. Would you prefer to live in a hot or cold country?
I like living in a cold country because it often has beautiful scenery, such as snow-
capped mountains and frozen lakes, and gives me the opportunity to participate in
winter sports like skiing and skating.
7. What is the best/worst weather for traveling in?
In my opinion, the best weather to travel is in the summer. Why? Because this is
the time to recharge after a long period of studying. Besides, in the summer, the
weather in tourist areas is often cool and pleasant and we can enjoy seafood such
as shrimp, fish, squid, snail...
The worst weather for traveling is of course hurricane (hơ ri cần) season. Because
it is safe to stay indoors and to avoid flooded areas, facilities are closed and flights
are canceled.

Part 2:
- The cause of the problem (nguyên nhân)
- What effect it has had on your country (ảnh hưởng của nó)
- The steps, if any, that have been taken to solve this (thực hiện được gì để gq vấn đề)
- Explain why you think this problem is so important to solve (giải thích tại sao cần
giải quyết vấn đề này)
*One of the major environmental problems that occurred in Vietnam was the
Formosa environmental disaster, also known as the "red tide" crisis (crai dít), in
2016. This crisis affected the marine (mờ rin) ecosystem and the livelihoods of
thousands of people who depend on fishing for their income.
 The cause of the mass fish deaths was traced (trây) back to toxic chemicals
discharged into the sea by a Taiwanese-owned steel plant (Tai wow ni dần sờ tiêu
pờ lan), Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation (FHS), located in the Ha Tinh
province.
 The chemicals released by the steel plant which led to the death of over 100
tons of fish, as well as other marine life such as shrimp, crabs, and mollusks (mo
lớt kơ). The environmental disaster also caused respiratory problems for local
residents due to the strong odor of the chemicals in the air.
 The Vietnamese government responded to the crisis by imposing fines on steel
factories: imposing administrative fines of nearly 4.5 billion VND (fo poi fai vi en
đì) and implementing measures to resolve these problems environmental damage
caused by disasters. Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation admitted responsibility for
causing the environmental incident, publicly apologized to the Government and
People of Vietnam and committed to compensate (com pen sây) 500 million USD
for people in the affected areas who suffered economic losses. , supporting
professional transformation for people, pollution treatment and marine (mờ rin)
environment restoration in 4 central provinces of Vietnam.
 This problem is so important to solve because the crisis had a significant impact
on the local economy, as fishing is a major source of income for many people in
the affected areas. The loss of fish and other marine life led to a decrease in income
for fishermen and fish farmers, as well as a decline in tourism due to the poor
water quality.

Part 3:
1. Do you think it is the responsibility of governments alone to protect the environment?
Of course not! I think protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility. Because the
government issues policies and laws, there must also be people who respect and implement it.
We simply cannot continue our lives of throwing waste irresponsibly and expecting the
government to clean it up. There is nothing left to clean up in the first place if we dispose of
everything properly, it would be a waste of both time and resources.
2. What measures can individuals take to protect the environment?
If governments have an important role to play in formulating policies and enforcing laws to
protect the environment, then individual actions and the collective efforts of society also play
an important role. Individuals can contribute to protecting the environment by adopting
environmentally friendly habits such as reducing waste, saving water and using energy-
efficient appliances. Businesses can also adopt sustainable practices and reduce their carbon
footprint.
3. Do you think large companies and business organizations should be more environmentally
friendly? Why? How?
Yes, I think large companies and business organizations should be more environmentally
friendly. Because saving energy, water resources, and air resources can reduce their costs.
Besides, it is possible to increase the value of goods by using new and more efficient air and
water resources.
