1. One of the main pillars in achieving sustainable development is through

ensuring human well-being. Why is this so? Please state your reasons.

SDG 3, “good health and well-being”, or “ensuring a healthy life and promoting well-being for
all ages”. well-being is a state associated to physical or psychological variables analysed
independently or together. Physical well-being depends on good health and meeting the body's
basic needs, while psychological well-being is more abstract and can include social or economic
success, pleasure, and harmony with oneself, others, and the environment. Individual and
collective health and well-being are amazing resources that affect social and economic growth,
improving the health and well-being of supportive populations.

 Economic Productivity: Well-being increases employee engagement and decreases

absenteeism and turnover. Happier workers tend to be more realistic, less absent, more
cooperative and kind, less likely to change jobs, more willing to help others, more involved
at work, earn more money, and have better relationships with coworkers and customers.

 Promoting the well-being of individuals contributes to the development of social harmony

and cohesiveness. The provision of essential necessities to individuals leads to a decrease in
both social upheaval and disparities. This fosters societal stability.

 Unwell people are easily overwhelmed and may use harmful coping techniques. well-being
individuals use their strengths and support systems to solve issues. Strong social and
economic underpinnings, including good health and education, make communities resilient
to natural disasters and economic crises. Resilience is essential for sustainable development
in unexpected situations.

 Long-term savings: Prioritising preventative care and well-being can save healthcare

expenses. Healthy people are less likely to contract preventable diseases, lowering

healthcare costs.

In conclusion, human well-being is essential for sustainable development because it fulfils basic
needs, lays the groundwork for economic and social progress, and supports a holistic approach
that recognises the interdependence of development goals.
