Pakikipagkapwa - It means connecting myself with others, feeling myself in

the other and having a sense of shared identity and a shared inner self.
To put it simply, kapwa is the obligation we have towards our fellow man.

The ten most depicted traits were the following: pakikisama, hiya, utang na loob,
close family ties, bahala na, amor propio, bayanihan, hospitality, ningas cogon,
and respect for elders.

Why are Filipino core values important?


Filipinos reiterate the importance of values related to society such as good
governance, love for country, honesty and integrity. As for personal values,
value of the self, life and purpose, resilience, and happiness are important.

Amor Propio or self-love is another factor that governs social etiquette in the
Philippines. It a sense of self-worth or self-respect that, when followed, prevents
hiya.
Ningas Cogon mentality is a lack of sustained perseverance. Ningas cogon trait
is the attitude of Filipinos which is starting things with excellence, then after a
period of time, we lose enthusiasm and eventually making things unfinished or
uncontinued. Leave things incomplete.

Interpersonal values
colonial or accommodative surface values - Filipinos are expected by their
neighbors to return favors—whether these were asked for or not—when it is
needed or wanted.
Confrontative surface values - Bahala na: it is translated as "determination in
the face of uncertainty" and is used as an expression, almost universally, in
Filipino culture.
Pivotal Interpersonal Value - Pakiramdam: Shared inner perceptions. Filipinos
use damdam, or the inner perception of others' emotions, as a basic tool to
guide his dealings with other people.

Societal values
Linking socio-personal value - This refers to being able to help other people in
dire need due to a perception of being together as a part of one Filipino
humanity.

Associated societal values - Relationship values include openness, trust,


generosity and caring. Social values reflect how we relate to society. Social
values include justice, freedom, respect, community, and responsibility.
 Example:
 Education.
 Fairness.
 Honesty.
 Humanity.
 Individual rights.
