6. Baban and Ramsukh together take 12 days to erect a shed,
∴ one day's work of Baban and Ramsukh together =
1

12

Now Baban alone can erect the shed in 20 days,

∴ Baban's one day work =

5 − 3
∴ Ramsukh's one day work = 1

Ramsukh alone can erect the shed in 30 days.

7. We have, n1 = 5, X

¯
1 = 30, n3 = 15, X
¯

Let ¯
X be the average of all the 30 numbers. Then,
¯ ¯ ¯
n1 X 1 +n2 X 2 +n3 X 3
¯
X =
n1 +n2 +n3
5×60+10×30+15×20 300+300+300

9. Meantime in a week devoted = Sum of all the observations

Total number of observations

10 + 7 + 13 + 20 + 15
= 5
= 65

5
= 13
10. Let the length of the second train be x m.
Distance covered to cross each other = (130 + x) m
Since trains are running in the same direction, so
relative speed = (126 - 90) km/h = 36 km/h
= (36 × 5

18
) m/s = 10 m/s
Given that time taken to cross each other = 25 sec
⇒ 130 + x = 250 ⇒ x = 120
130 + x
∴ 25 =
10

Hence, the length of the second train = 120 m

11. At 6 o'clock, the hour hand is at 6 and the minute hand is at 12. It means the angle between the two hands of the clock is
180°.

To catch the hour hand, the minute hand has to cover a relative distance of 180° at a relative speed of 5.5° per minute.
The time required to coincide the hands = minutes = minutes
180 180 × 2

5.5 11

= 32 8

11
minutes
= 32 min 44 sec
Hence, the hands of the clock coincide at 6:32:44
12. A's one day work = and B's one day work =

one day's work of A and B together =

1 1 3+2 5 1
∴ + = = =
10 15 30 30 6

∴ 4 days' work of A and B together =4 × 1

6

∴ Remaining work = 1− 2

3

∴ The number of days taken by B to finish the remaining work

Hence, B will complete the remaining work in 5 days.

To calculate the remuneration of each, it is easier to find how much work A did.
A did work for 4 days and A's one day work =
1

10

∴ A's 4 days work = 1

10
× 4 =
2

A's share of money = ₹1000 = ₹ ( = ₹ 400

2 2
∴ of × 1000)
5 5

∴ B's share of money = total money - A's share

= ₹ 1000 - ₹ 400 = ₹ 600
13. Number of odd days:
From 10 January 2006 - 9 January 2007 = 1
From 10 January 2007 - 9 January 2008 = 1
From 10 January 2008 - 9 January 2009 = 2 (∵ 2008 is a leap year)
From 10 January 2009 - 9 January 2010 = 1
Now from 10 January 2010 to 14 February 2010
Number of days = 22 + 14 =36
Jan. 2010 Feb. 2010
So, the number of odd days = 7 × 5 + 1 i.e. 1 day.
∴ The total number of odd days = 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 6

Since 15 February was Monday, we have to count 6 odd days backwards, therefore, it was Tuesday.
Hence, 10 January 2006 was Tuesday.

14. i. It is given that E is one end of the row.
So, we have two cases
________ E or E ________
It is given that G is at sixth place to the left of E.
So, the second arrangement will be rejected because there is no left place to E.
Thus, we have
________ G ________ E
Again it is given that H is immediate left of G.
So, we have
________ H G ________ E ...(i)
Now, it is given that C is to the immediate right of D and at fourth place to the right of A.

So, these can be arranged like
A ________ DC
It is given that F is immediate right of C. So
A ________ D C F
It is given that B is seated adjacent to F and I.
So, we have
A ________ D C F B I ...(ii)
On combining (i) and (ii), we have the final arrangement:
AHGDCFBIE
ii. C is sitting at the centre of the row.
iii. A is at the other end of the row.
iv. I is in fifth place to the right of G.
v.

So, three friends A, D and F will remain unchanged.

15. i. Given that Q is immediate left of J. So, first we arrange Q and J.
It is given that O is immediate right of K and L is sitting between N and O. It means K, O, L and N are sitting
together. Since the position of K is not given, so

we can arrange them in the following three ways:

Given that Q cannot be the neighbours of N and M. So the third arrangement is rejected.
It is given that P is the neighbour of N. So P can sit as

Now, we are left with M only.

Given that Q is not the neighbour of N and M. So, the first arrangement is rejected.
∴ The final arrangement is shown as:

ii. Neighbours of M are J and K.

iii. Person sitting just left of Q is P.
iv. Person sitting between L and P is N.
v. Neighbours of K are O and M.
