Note
Undertake work, involving asbestos containing material, only if it cannot be postponed and to be dealt with by
competent & well equipped shore personnel.
Use this checklist along with Cold Work Permit for any work, which can create asbestos dust.
Company procedures are available in H&S chapter ‘Asbestos Handling’.

5. Note: Prevent the release and dispersion of asbestos fibre by insulating and covering the exposed sections and
where practicable, sealing of the area until repaired in a controlled environment

6. Materials used for asbestos containment does not pose additional hazards, e.g., fire hazard
7. Relevant warning notices posted.
8. Ventilation adjusted to avoid dispersal of asbestos dust into safe areas.
9. Protective clothing including approved respirators worn by all concerned.

10. Precaution taken for reducing dust generation by using hand tools only and / or wetting the
area.
Note: Dry asbestos is much more likely to produce dust than asbestos that is thoroughly wet or oil-soaked.
