OIL SPILL PROCEDURES
During connection operations, minimum one crew in charge will be in the bunker
point with radio in case of spill, inform immediately PSV to stop pumping. Inform
OIM & radio room. Plug deck scuppers, organize use of detergent, oil spill kit
material like pillows & absorbents. Keep OIM informed on measures taken.
DESCRIPTION OF DRILL
SIMULATION DRILL
At 1300hrs Deema was receiving fuel from supply boat ghazi on starboard aft
side. Radio room announced that fuel transfer was about to commence all hot
onboard Deema should be stopped. After about 25mintues into the transfer the
Engine room called the deck and told them to inform the boat to immediately stop
pumping fuel. Mechanic Arunnath had noticed that there was fuel leaking from
the transfer pump and it was starting to fill the scupper. He immediately placed
some sand on top of the spill a placed more rags on the deck just in case there was
in spillage onto the deck. After inspecting the transfer pump it was found that the
valve was damaged. After some time the valve was repaired and fuel was pump
again at low pressure. Several minutes’ later fuel was transferring again at full
pressure once the all clear was given. Radio room once again announced fuel
transfer to commence.

OIM: sure the transfer was stopped immediately. New
crew was briefed on SOPEP drill procedures,
SAFETY OFFICER: duties and responsibilities in the event of real
emergencies.
