การใช้ For : ‘for’ is used for periods of time

“For + ช่วงเวลา”
ใช้เพื่อขยายว่าเหตุการณ์นี้ใช้เวลานานเท่าไร เป็นการบอก ‘ช่วงเวลา’ ที่เกิดขึ้น
Ex. My family has been living in New Zealand for 5 years.
We have taught at this school for a long time.
Alice has been married for three months.
ข้อสังเกต : ไม่ใช้ for ตามด้วย all…. เช่น
√ I’ve lived here all my life.
X I’ve lived here for all my life.

การใช้ Since : ‘since’ is used to a point in time in the past

“Since + จุดเวลาที่เจาะจง”
ใช้เพื่อบอกจุดเริ่มต้นของเวลา มีความหมายว่า ‘ตั้งแต่’ ใช้เพื่อบอกจุดเริ่มต้นเวลาซึ่งดำเนินมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
Ex. I have studied English since I was young.
I haven’t seen him since 1999.
I have known him since we were in kindergarten.
