A2 KEY SPEAKING EXAM PART 2

The Cambridge Key (A2) exam was modified in 2020. A significant change was made in the
speaking part, where the second part used to be a question-answer section based on black-
white visuals (similar to Cambridge Flyers A2 Part 2). Since 2020, candidates are required to
simulate a discussion about a question, based on five black&white visuals. They need to
express their likes and dislikes (Do you like doing these activities in your free time?), give reasons
(Why/not?), ask each other simple questions (What do you think about reading?) and finally answer
some adjective questions asked by the interlocutor (Do you think watching TV is boring?). The exam
finishes with some general questions about the candidates’ preferences, habits, etc. (So, do you
prefer watching TV or reading in your free time? Which is more fun: watching TV or reading?)

Mind: There are two candidates and two examiners present in one speaking exam: one examiner
talks to the candidates, he/she is the interlocutor, the other one only listens and evaluates, he/
she is called the assessor.
Candidate A stands for the first name of one of the students, Candidate B for the first name
of the other student.

In this booklet, you can find 35 sets of Part 2 visuals (some in colour, some black&white) and
follow-up questions. The materials are ideal for exam preparation, but also for general
vocabulary revision.

List of topics:

Buildings page 16 House and rooms page 18

Buying products A-B-C page 20-22 Jobs A-B page 6-7
Childhood page 36 Media page 27
Communication page 35 Places in the city A-B page 14-15

The instructions are authentic sentences the interlocutor reads out loud to the candidates (word
by word). You can find these in any teacher’s handbook.

The format is suitable for both, Cambridge Key and Cambridge Key for Schools, although
you might decide which set of pictures to use.
