Racism

Racism is a bad treatment against group of people because of their colors, beliefs, tribes…. etc. This

topic is very interesting because this bad habit happens every day around the world. Racism started in America

in 1600, but unfortunately this behavior spread around the world and continue until today. Most of people

think discrimination is just from white people to other races, but I think this is wrong belief. I mentioned in

many papers that somebody was so racist with me even thought we were from same religion and same race,

but because I was from different tribe, he treated me with racism. After I read and searched a lot, I understand

that discriminations are some aggressive feelings that people have when they see other people are not same as

them and they believe that they are superior. From the book which I read “Educational Psychology: Active

Learning Edition” states that, "They may even show a kind of “classism” (like racism or sexism), believing that

they are “better” than members of lower social classes and avoiding association with them." Woolfolk (2019).

In fact, racism is very dangerous issue may destroy societies and is a serious problem and not being solved yet.

If people want to end this issue, they should start from schools and educate the new generations by doing

some activities which help them feel that all people must be treated equally. Also, they need to know that a

racism something exists and it happens every day, but for their future, they need to get rid of this behavior.
Overall, our roles as we are future teachers, we should create plans in our classrooms which make students

feel that all are equal regardless their race, colors, beliefs, language region, gender…...etc.

One of these plans is all students in same classroom should know that each one of them has right to

dignity and expression. Right to express their feelings, asking questions, sharing ideas. When students get used

to share things with their peers, they learned that everyone in the class has same right that they have. For

example, when students start to share their ideas, culture, beliefs…etc., they will be familiar about others’ lives

and then, they will start to accept each other or may they like other cultures. In fact, teaching students about

others’ rights helps them to have more open mind.

Another plan to make reduce racism in our classroom is creating strict rules on students who treat

others with racism. Students in the class should know that there are consequences for any aggressive

treatment. For example, for student who treats other with racism should get time out or suspend for.

Punishment could help to stop racism in the classroom especially in the elementary schools because children

will keep in their minds that there are consequences for any offensive actions and that will make them believe

racism is a bad behavior and they need to get rid of it.

The most important plan is making students feel responsible to build a better future for them. Also, we

should teach them that if they get any racism treatment, they should speak loudly and share their bad

experience to request action to stop this badly behave. Now, many people live in racist environment, but they

don’t realize or they turn a blind eye. Often time, this happened in schools, workshop, or in their communities.

The worst part, these racist people don’t realize that they are racist and they continue doing it. For example,

When I had the bad experiences with the person who treated me with racism, he didn’t feel shame and to

make matter worse, I was silent, I couldn’t speak or tell someone who could help because nobody

recommended me what should I do in this situation. Therefore, we should teach our students that they can

help other people who are suffering from racism by sharing their experience and guide people to the right way

if they get any racist treatment. In fact, making students feel responsible will encourage them to make
corrections for any bad behavior they may see in their daily lives.

Lastly, I have described three plans that can use in our classrooms in the future to reduce

discrimination. Racism is a serious problem could impact students’ futures; therefore, students need to aware

about these issues and what should they do is they face it in their daily lives. I am going to follow these plans to

help my students to get rid of this issue and live-in dignity.
