Measurements of Gaps at SEJ
Measurements of Gaps at SEJ
Headquarters Office,
Works Branch,
Chennai – 3.
No.W.504/I/IC/Policy Date: 20.01.15
1) At the time of laying/destressing, the initial reference peg may be fixed at the
centre of the fabricated stock rail.
2) The two gaps i.e .A and B may be adjusted to 40 mm each.
3) For taking the periodical measurements in service, the individual gaps at the
two ends shall be measured as a1 and b1 along with movement of the stock rail
as (d) with respect to initial reference position of stock rail.
4) The measured gaps may be corrected as under taking into the account the
movement of the fabricated stock rail.
If stock rail moved towards Tongue rail B,
A1=a1-d-20mm
B1=b1+d-20mm
Now, Total gap shall be A1+B1
5) As the initial gaps of SEJ i.e. A & B are 40 mm as against 20 mm specified in the
LWR Manual, the corrected gap values of para (4) above are then compared
with the values given in Annexure V of LWR Manual 1996 for the initial gap of 40
mm.
6) A sketch showing the proposed procedure is enclosed for ready reference.
