Three hundred years ago, tragedy struck the life of two lovers.

Leshana (firbolg) and Kethend

(lizardfolk) were a mighty spellcaster duo that met while the lizardfolk was hunting in the
woods. Leshana put a stop to the poaching of the nearby village and teached Kethend and her
people about the balance between people and nature. They grew fond of each other and soon
afterwards fell deeply in love of one another. Leshana would ultimately abandon her life in the
woods to join Kethend in a series of adventures, but they would always return to their little
village by the river to spend their free time together.

One day, while taking a stroll through the woods, the couple noticed a shadow flying swiftly
through the sky above. A loud roar and the sound of a fire blast followed. Alarmed, they ran
back to find the village burning and the beast responsible, hovering above. Moldrim, an Adult
Red Dragon, had followed Leshana and Kethend after their last adventure. Judging them as a
threat against his evil plans, he took it upon himself to surprise the couple in their downtime and
kill them before they could react. Unluckily for him, the druid and sorcerer were out of town. A
terrible battle would ensue and, in the end, only one of them would stand.

Kethend held Leshana in her arms, weeping as she saw the wounds left by the now felled
dragon. It was too late for the village, she thought, but it didn’t have to be the same for her
partner. She took her wounded lover to the charred ruins of their home and searched for the
ancient tome of a necromancer they had locked away some time ago. Kethend, betraying some
of her beliefs in the name of her loved one, prepared a concoction made of poison and her own
blood and made Leshana drink it. Afterwards, she performed an evil ritual and sacrificed her
own soul, sealing the firbolg’s in a locket containing pictures of the couple.

When Leshana regained consciousness, she felt different. The cold grip of death had changed
her body, making every move she made feel unnatural and lifeless. It only took some seconds
for her to notice the corpse of Kethend beside her, the locket grasped in her hands. She finally
understood the origin of the strange power coming from within herself: the druid had become a
Lich, bound eternally to the undeath until her soul was released from its prison. She buried her
fallen partner with the locket, and ran to lock herself in the woods before her now evil nature
took over her mind.

Centuries later, the corruption coming from the undead lady has spread deep into the woods.
Some travelers who tried to use the old road that crossed the village have disappeared, and
nearby towns are worried about the fell creatures roaming the outskirts. With these red herrings,
our adventurers should think they are fighting against something more manageable than a
powerful lich, but they have something going in their favor. Before she bound herself to a great
tree and lost her mind, Leshana left a series of clues for future adventurers, giving instructions
on where her phylactery was and how to destroy it. She knew that her powers could be too great
to control, so she made sure there was a way to end her life if things went wrong. After a brief
encounter with the restrained druid, the party will embark on a quest to release her soul and help
her rejoin her lover in the afterlife.
