Assignment-I Maximum Marks: 15 Name of Faculty: Dr. Saurabh Shukla
Submission Deadline: Monday (24/06/2024) 5:00 PM Submission Venue:
TIET, Office No. BC-210
Submit it on A4 papers neatly solved stapled with name and roll no. on the first page.

1. Four 25 kW, three-phase, 400 V induction motor are to be supplied by transformers connected
in open delta from a 11 kV line, At full load each motor has an efficiency of 95% and operates
at PF of 0.866 lagging.
(a) Determine the kVA rating of each of two transformers and then turns Ratio.
(b) Determine line current on LV and HV side. At what PF is each transformer operating.
(c) What is real power supplied by each transformer?
(d) What would be available capacity if the third transformer is added to form a closed
delta?

2. Three identical single phase transformer, connected in delta/delta supply a balanced three-
phase load. Each transformer carries a rated current at rated voltage. One transformer develops
a fault and is removed.
(a) For the same load kVA, find percentage increase in losses and decrease in efficiency.
Each transformer has a core loss of 0.01 pu and ohmic loss of 0.02 pu at rated voltage
and current. Assume load PF to be unity.
(b) For same temperature rise, determine percentage reduction in kVA capacity of open
delta.

3. A 400 kVA load at 0.7 PF lagging is supplied by three single-phase transformers connected in
delta-delta. Each of the transformer is rated at 200 kVA, 2300/230. If one defective transformer
is removed, calculate for the V-V connection
(a) The kVA load carried by each transformer
(b) Percent rated load carried by each transformer
(c) Total kVA ratings of the transformer bank in V-V
(d) Ratio of V-V bank to delta-delta bank transformers rating
(e) Percentage increase in load on each transformer when one transformer is removed.
4. A lighting load of I A is taken from one phase of a three-phase transformer bank. Show the
current distribution in the phases and in lines.
(a) When the transformers are connected in delta.
(b) When the primary is connected in star and secondary in delta.
(c) When both sides are connected in V-V connection.

5. If the star side of star-delta transformer is excited by negative sequence then find the phasor
sequence and lead-lag relationship between HV and LV windings.
