2.a) Explain the operation of single phase full converter during motoring mode of separately

b) A 220V,1000 rpm,10A separately excited dc motor is fed from a single phase full converter
with ac source voltage of 230V,50Hz.Armature circuit resistance is 1Ω.Armature current is
continuous .Calculate firing angle for rated motor torque at 300 rpm. [5+5]

3. Discuss the operation of three phase semi converter fed dc separately excited dc motor for
firing angle delay of α=300, draw the output voltage, output current of converter assuming

4.a) Discuss the single quadrant operation of chopper fed dc separately excited dc motor.
b) Derive the expression of armature ripple current in case step down chopper fed dc motor.

5.a) Explain the implementation of regenerative braking operation of dc motor using chopper.
b) A220V, 60A dc series motor, having combined resistance of armature and field of 0.15Ω, is
controlled in regenerative braking mode. The dc source voltage is 220V. Motor constant is
0.05 V.S/A.rad. The average motor armature current is rated and ripples free. For a duty
cycle of 0.4 determine the power returned to the supply. [5+5]
6.a) Discuss V/f control of induction motor.
b) Draw the Torque Vs speed characteristics of induction motor with V/f control. [6+4]
