BACKGROUND
A young entrepreneur wants to open a shoe shop in the local business Centre. In his/her shop,
he/she wants to sell school shoes for teenagers. However, he/she needs help on how to stock
his merchandise with regard to shoe sizes. Your teacher has requested you to carry out a survey
within your school to collect and examine data about shoe sizes amongst teenagers (13 – 19
years) for a particular gender (boys or girls) to help advice the entrepreneur.
THE CALA
The CALA consist of four parts.-Part A, B, C and Part D. You are required to
attend to all parts.
PART A: Data Collection
• To help establish and examine the data, learners need to choose on their specific topic
of focus and then apply a data collecting technique to collect raw data on a suitable sample
size.(at least 50 learners)
• For this part, learners need to use the information from Part A.
Using an appropriate data classification technique, classify/ group your data in a frequency
table or tables.
• Using the table or tables created in Part B for the data collected in Part A, use a pie
chart to display your data.
• Using your information from Part A and/or Part B and/or Part C to answer the
following questions:
i) What is the modal shoe size? Give a reason for your answer.
ii) How do you find the median value in any given set of data?
iii) Use your classified data to calculate the mean. Show working.
iv) Calculate the percentage of any two shoe sizes of your choice.
From your findings what recommendation can you give to the entrepreneur who wants
to open a shoe shop?
