3.2 System of Accounting Followed

Michezo Sports follows accrual-based accounting in the organization. Accrual basis of

accounting attempts to record the financial impacts of the financial transactions or events of a
venture in the period in which they happen as opposed to keeping them in the time span in which
money is gotten or paid by the undertaking.

The accrual basis of accounting perceives that purchasing, delivering, selling and other financial
occasions that influence the endeavour’s presentation frequently don't match with the money
receipts and instalments for the given time frame. The rationale behind following the accrual basis
of accounting is to relate the achievements (estimated as income) and the endeavours (estimated
with regards to cost) so that the recorded income (net of costs) measures an undertaking's
presentation during a period rather than only posting its money receipts and instalments.

It likewise perceives the resources, liabilities, income and gathered costs for the sums got or paid
in real money previously, and sums expected to be paid or gotten in real money later on.

Under accounting on the accrual basis, the costs are matched either against revenues or against
the significant time span to decide the net gain. Those multitudes of costs which are not charged
against the pay of the period are conveyed forward. In the event that any gathered expense has
lost its utility or its ability to produce revenue later on, it is discounted as an expense.

3.3 Recruitment, Performance Appraisal System, Training and Development

The human resource department of Michezo Sports is solely responsible for recruiting new
employees and making sure they’re trained well before undertaking important work. There are

13
more than 2000 employees at the organization at present and all of them are working effectively
and efficiently. Michezo Sports recruits people through the following techniques:

· Offline Interviews: This is the most basic method followed in the organization for hiring new
people. Generally, the HR along with the concerned department’s supervisor interviews the
candidate in the head office of Bhawar Corporation and makes the final decision.

· LinkedIn: They also scrutinize and select matching profiles from LinkedIn for the jobs available
in the organization. The interview may be conducted through a telephonic medium (only in
special cases).

· Recommendations: There also have been a few cases where the employee leaving the
organization makes recommendations for recruitment to fill his place. This eases the selection
process a bit and saves a lot of time. Only people with enough knowledge and skills get placed
by this method.

After the recruitment and selection process, the employees are trained under some experienced
employee or supervisor regarding the work they’re supposed to do for at least 10 days.

Michezo Sports focuses a lot on its employees and their satisfaction as well. It treats its employees
like family. There is always a small celebration for every employee’s birthday at the end of the
day. Moreover, an employee working with rigour and excellence is appraised and encouraged by
the heads of the company. Each and every employee is given health insurance up to two lakh
rupees.

4.2 Internship Experience

22
Week 1:

The first week primarily involved me getting an understanding of how the office works, my role
there and the beginning of my first project. My first project was a competitor analysis of the
competitors of Michezo Sports.

I collected the annual reports of 8 competitor companies and transferred their data to Excel. Due
to this exercise, I got deeper learning about Excel, its functions and its use. The process of
converting got faster as I learnt easier ways to do it.

I then dedicated my time to understanding the importance of common sizing and its method. The
balance sheets and Profit and Loss statements of these companies and Michezo Sports were
common-sized by me.

To conduct a thorough competitor analysis, it is imperative to review the financials and draw
conclusions from them, and this can be done by ratio analysis. As part of my internship, one of
the most important things I learnt was analysing financial statements through ratios like current
ratio, quick ratio, Net Working Capital Ratio, Debt to Assets Ratio, Return on assets and return
on equity, among others. I spent some time understanding how to compute these ratios and the
adjustments that need to be made for this and then computed the ratios using Excel.

I made an extensive Excel sheet with the ratios of all the companies for the last three years and
compared the values with the average and that of Michezo’s.

My mentor then explained to me the difference in revenue recognition for construction

companies. Construction companies use the percentage completion method wherein revenue is
recognised according to the percentage of the project that has been completed. This concept is
applied while calculating the day sales operations.

Throughout this week, I got a better hold of Excel and its functions. Although I have learnt ratios
before, I understood the practical application of it. Another important lesson learnt was how to
read financial statements and the importance of the details and notes that accompany financial
statements.

Week 2:

The second week was a continuation of my project from the first week. The goal of the second
week was to make a deck that encapsulated the competitor analysis.

23
The week started with the interpretation of the ratios and compiling it in a way that would make
it easier for a reader to understand.

My role then moved on to researching the qualitative aspects of these sports infrastructure
companies. I compared the functions, achievements and projects of all these companies with
Michezo. Certain companies were not direct competitors of Michezo, whereas the others were in
the same business.

As the final function, before I made the presentation, it was required that I compute the EBITDA
and PAT. For this, I constructed income statements of all the companies from the information
provided in the financial statements.

I then moved on to curating the presentation. The presentation included a brief overview of the
company, including the date of incorporation, founders, major projects and achievements and
details of their primary operations.

I then presented the deck to my mentor, Mr Deepak Natraj, and further understood concepts about
competitor analysis and its importance. With this, my first project in the internship came to an
end.

Week 3:

I started my second project in Week 3. The project involved the analysis of investments in
Education Technology and Hospitality with a view to determining potential demand for the
Company’s products.

This included researching the major players in each industry, researching in depth a bout their
investments, finding the source of their investments and understanding the concept of venture
capital funds in detail.

It allowed me to further understand the investment process in startups and the various levels of
funding while helping me learn to use Excel.

Week 4:

The fourth week started off with getting a deeper understanding of the industry.

I was required to create a process map of the process of how client-company relations are built.

24
I then received the financials of a new competitor company. I was required to update the
competitor analysis accordingly.

One of the hardest tasks I did was to create the cash flow statement of the company. In theory,
making the cash flow statement is easy, but practically, taking into account all details and making
the statement was a challenge. It truly allowed me to read the company financials and critically
analyse them. The cash flow statement was made from the balance sheet and was made in Excel.
