STAINLESS STEEL RISERS AND ACCESSORIES

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The riser consists of pipes connecting the outlet of the submersible pumps in the boreholes to the
outlet of the respective boreholes. The risers shall be of quick coupling, Box End and the Pin End
Riser type as per the drawing below:

Figure 0-4: Push-Fit riser details

NB: Please note that the assembly shall consist of 1 Spline and 2 O-rings.

This Box End and the Pin End riser type provides for a quick coupling with the elimination of

83
threads fastening. The lock pin is done by a Shear Pin (steel spring) with leak proof sealing O-
ring. Each pipe is constructed with a Box End at one end while a Pin End at the other.

Part 1 = box end, complete with:

 Groove to accommodate the pivot.

 Inner groove to guide spring shear pin.
 Slot opening for the insertion of the spring shear pin.
Part 2 = Shear pin (steel spring)
Part 3 = Pin end, complete with:

 Pivot to prevent turning of pipe

 Outer groove to guide spring shear pin.
 Outer groove for sealing ring.
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Connection of Pipes

 Direction of pipe to be installed: box up, pin down

 Apply lubricant on the O-ring (special grease with approval for potable water)

 Push pin end into box end and ensure that pivot fits into groove providing the quick
coupling or equivalent. (Pivot located in groove prevents against start/stop torque
moment of the submersible pump and following disconnection of pipe column)

2. Locking of Pipes

Insert spring shear pin through slot opening to secure pipe connection.

3. Final Step

Remove lifting eye screw and cut off spring shear pin if required at edge of slot opening.

SPECIFICATIONS
(a) The riser pipe shall be constructed with Stainless Steel material of minimum
Grade 316 Ti, pickled and passivated and either seamless type or
longitudinally welded type. The riser pipe shall withstand a nominal pressure of
16 bar (PN 16).

(b) Each riser pipe shall be fitted with a Box End at one end while a Pin End at the
other.

(c) The crossover riser pipe that will be used to connect the pump shall have a male
threaded end of BSP parallel threads (11 threads per inch) and shall be fitted
with a Box End at the other end as per Figure 4.8-2.

(d) The crossover riser pipe of 1 meter length that shall be used to connect the well
head/bend (90°) at ground level shall be fitted with a Pin End at one end while the
other end shall be fitted with a welded female socket which shall be of BSP
Parallel Threaded ends (11 threads per inch) as per Figure 4.8-2.

(e) In case of pump outlet diameters being 80mm and 125mm, Stainless Steel threaded
reducers (adaptors) shall be used. The stainless steel threaded pipe reducer shall be
