Use of 20Cr-25Ni-6Mo (Alloy UNS N08366) Plate,
Sheet, Strip, and Welded Pipe, Classes 2 and 3
Section III, Division 1
Inquiry: Under what rules may 20Cr-25Ni-6Mo
(Alloy UNS N08366) plate, sheet, strip, and welded
pipe be used for Section III, Division 1, Class 2 and
3 construction?
Reply: It is the opinion of the Committee that
20Cr-25Ni-6Mo (Alloy UNS N08366) may be used for
Section III, Division 1, Class 2 and 3 construction,
provided the requirements of (a) through (h) below
are met.
(a) Welded pipe material shall conform to the require-
ments of SB-675.
(b) Except for (c) below, plate, sheet, and strip shall
conform to the requirements of ASTM B 688-81.
(c) The manufacturer of plate, sheet, and strip mate-
rial shall provide certification as specified in ASTM
B 688-81, 15.1.
(d) This material shall be treated as P-No. 45.
(e) The maximum allowable stress values shall be
those shown in Table 1 of this Case.
(f) For external pressure design, use Fig. VII-1103-2
of Section III, Division 1.
(g) All other requirements of Section III, Division
1, for Class 2 or 3 construction, as applicable, shall
be met.
(h) This Case number and revision applied shall be
identified on the Material Manufacturer’s certification
for the plate, sheet, strip, or welded pipe material.
