1.5 ELECTRONICS ON THE EC 225

1.5.1 INTEGRATED CIRCUIT BOARD
Most of the EC 225 electronic controls and monitoring circuits use integrated circuit boards.
A circuit board contains all the electrical functions of a conventional electrical circuit with the advantages of reduced
weight and volume, and a considerable increase in system capacities (safety, automatic operation etc.)
The boards are housed in a rack and are automatically plugged into the network when fully engaged in their racks.

ROLE OF INTEGRATED CIRCUIT BOARDS

The electronic board receives its orders from the suppliers in the form of electric signals (usually : a positive or a
ground). It analyses and processes these input signals and outputs signals which control the receivers according to a
functional logic determined for each system.
• suppliers: components which control or enable the functions. E.g.: control push-button, pressure switch
• receivers : components which carry out or indicate the functions. E.g.: solenoid valve, indicator light.

1.5.2 UNDERSTANDING AND REPAIRING SYSTEMS WHICH INCLUDE AN ELECTRONIC BOARD

Knowledge of board functions

As all operations on the board components must be carried out by the manufacturer (or specialized shops), the
maintenance department will be limited to replacing the board, in the event of a board failure. (The board protective
fuses can of course be replaced where necessary). The diagnosis (what is the cause of failure? the board? the
suppliers? the receivers?) requires thorough knowledge of the board functions without having to penetrate further
into the board component circuits. The circuits are usually complex and can only be dealt with by qualified electronic
experts. For this reason the Super Puma circuits are explained through simplified functional diagrams which clearly
indicate the functions that need to be understood in order to remedy the failure.

Simple diagrams which explain the functions

The final operation of a logic circuit in a control system is always the closing or opening of an electric circuit. Based
on this statement, the conventional electronic sketches are replaced by functional sketches emphasising the functional
conditions which result in the closure or opening of the control circuits.

HENCE

This is replaced by ............................................................................that

The logic circuit is reduced to a fictitious contact. An arrow

indicates the travel of the contact when the necessary conditions
are obtained. When these conditions are not obtained the
contact is reversed. (except in special cases which are
specified). FOR INSTRUCTION ONLY

The system includes :
• The function enabling and control components (the suppliers) :
- a current relay (1)
- a push button (2)
- a pressure switch (3)
- a position sensor (4)
- a line contactor (5)
• An integrated circuit board

• Operation and indicating components (the receivers) :

- an electrically operated pump (6)
- an indicator light (7).

The push button (2) must be "ON" and the contactor K closed for the electrically operated pump to be supplied. The
contactor K excitation requirements are as follows :
• Logic L1 "closed" (current in the electrically operated pump circuit less than 50 A).
• Logic L2 "closed" (pressure < 100 bars)
• Logic L3 "closed" (landing gear retracted) or logic L4 "closed" (transformer-rectifier on line).
