2.1 Course summary

Applied chemistry is an undergraduate chemistry course. It is a study of the concepts and methods of
application of the theories and principles of chemistry to practical purpose. The course combines the
topics related to general core of chemistry together with a range of applied chemistry option. This
course provided with a solid grounding on the theoretical aspect of applied chemistry as needed in
BT- 103. Laboratory experiments and computer-based exercises augment and reinforce the basic
principles discussed in lecture as well as provide practical examples.

2.2 Course aims

The aim of this course is that the students will acquire knowledge about the chemistry
and its applications in industries. Student can use material in engineering field.
Students are supposed to be competent to undertake scientific research and
technological development of the field independently even in computer applications.

2.3 Course learning outcomes (CLO).

At the successful completion of this course you (the student) should be able to:
1. Understand the structure and chemical transformations of molecules.

2. Understand the application of chemical process in industries.

3. Basic idea about water treatment, lubrication, corrosion, fuel, spectroscopy etc.

3. Strategies and approaches to learning:

3.1 Learning and teaching activities

This course enables to develop skills that will enhance the understanding of basic chemistry. The
course is designed to have a very practical orientation. Through the process of creating assignments,
problem will be solved through skills innovative ways. The course is delivered in a blended format,
comprised of face-to-face tutorials with online lectures. In the face-to-face tutorials it is expected to
attend 100% of lectures, with a minimum limit of 75%.
3.2 Expectations of students
An integral part of this course is consistent engagement in class activities as well as the online
component. You may fail the course if you do not attend regularly, even if you complete all
assignments. The students are expected to check their attendance on AMIZONE. The Course material
and other academic details will also be updated through AMIZONE. You must actively participate in
classes and try to submit your assignment within deadline..

4. Course schedule and structure

[This course consists of 42 hours of class contact hours. You are expected to take an additional 2
hours of non-class contact hours to complete assessments, readings and exam preparation.]

6. Academic integrity, referencing and plagiarism

Referencing is a way of acknowledging the sources of information that you use to research your
assignments. You need to provide a reference whenever you draw on someone else's words, ideas or
research. Not referencing other people's work can constitute plagiarism.
Further information about referencing styles can be located at http://www.apastyle.org/learn/quick-
guide-on-references.aspx

Academic integrity is fundamental to success at university. Academic integrity can be defined as a

commitment to six fundamental values in academic pursuits: honesty, trust, fairness, respect,
responsibility and courage. At Amity, this means that your work must be your own, and others’ ideas
should be appropriately acknowledged. If you don’t follow these rules, plagiarism may be detected in
your work.
