Introduction:

With the increasing importance of technology in our daily lives, it has become

essential for elementary school students to develop computer literacy skills from an early

age. Computer labs in elementary schools provide an environment where students can

engage in hands-on learning activities to enhance their computer skills. This literature

review explores the various approaches, strategies, and outcomes associated with using

computer labs to enhance the learning of computers at the elementary level.

Importance of Computer Learning in Elementary Schools:

Computer literacy is a crucial skill for students in the digital age. It equips them

with the necessary knowledge and competencies to navigate and succeed in the modern

world. Early exposure to computer learning helps students develop essential skills, such

as keyboarding, problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and digital

citizenship.

2
Integration of Computer Labs in Elementary Schools:

The integration of computer labs in elementary schools serves as a dedicated

space for students to learn and practice computer skills. Several studies highlight the

positive impact of computer lab usage on students' academic performance and computer

proficiency. The availability of resources like computers, software, and internet

connectivity provides students with opportunities to explore different software

applications, engage in interactive learning activities, and access educational resources

online.

Pedagogical Approaches in Computer Lab Instruction:

Teachers play a vital role in facilitating computer learning in the lab. Various

pedagogical approaches have been explored to optimize computer lab instruction. These

include project-based learning, collaborative learning, game-based learning, and

personalized learning. Project-based learning allows students to apply their computer

skills to real-world scenarios, fostering creativity and problem-solving abilities.

Collaborative learning encourages teamwork, communication, and knowledge sharing

among students. Game-based learning engages students through interactive and enjoyable

activities, enhancing motivation and knowledge retention. Personalized learning tailors

instruction to individual students' needs, allowing them to progress at their own pace and

focus on areas requiring improvement.

Impact of Computer Lab Usage on Learning Outcomes:

Research suggests that computer lab usage positively impacts students' learning

outcomes. Studies have shown that students who engage in computer lab activities

demonstrate improved computer literacy skills, academic achievement, critical thinking

abilities, and higher levels of motivation and engagement. Furthermore, computer lab

usage has been found to enhance students' creativity, problem-solving skills, information

3
literacy, and digital citizenship. It also provides opportunities for students to develop

21st-century skills necessary for future success in the workforce.

Challenges and Recommendations:

Despite the potential benefits of computer lab usage, challenges exist in

effectively implementing and utilizing computer labs in elementary schools. These

challenges include limited access to computers, inadequate training for teachers, lack of

appropriate software and resources, and the need for ongoing technical support. To

address these challenges, it is crucial to prioritize sufficient funding and resources for

computer labs, provide professional development opportunities for teachers, ensure

regular maintenance and upgrades of hardware and software, and promote collaboration

between schools and technology experts. In the digital age, the use of computers has

become an integral part of daily life and

Education. Integrating computer technology into the elementary education system

has Been a subject of considerable interest for researchers and educators alike. This

Literature review aims to explore the existing research and studies related to the

Enhancement of computer learning at the elementary level through the utilization of

Computer labs.

The Role of Computer Labs in Elementary Education:

Computer labs in elementary schools offer a dedicated space where students can

Access computer resources and educational software. Research by Almekhlafi and

Almeqdadi (2017) demonstrates that computer labs provide students with opportunities

To engage in interactive learning, promoting better understanding of subject

matter, and Fostering critical thinking skills.

4
Impact on Academic Performance:

Several studies have investigated the impact of computer lab usage on academic

Performance. A study by Wang and Wu (2018) found a positive correlation between

Computer lab usage and improved academic achievement in subjects such as

Mathematics and language arts. However, it is essential to consider the role of effective

Teacher guidance and well-designed educational software in achieving there outcomes.

Digital Literacy and 21st Century Skills:

The integration of computer labs at the elementary level can significantly

contribute to The development of digital literacy skills. According to Cavanaugh, Gillan,

Kromrey, Hess, & Blomeyer (2004), exposure to computer technology at a young age

fosters Essential 21st-century skills, including information literacy, problem-solving, and

Collaboration.

Barriers to Effective Computer Lab Integration:

Despite the potential benefits, there are challenges in effectively integrating

computer Labs into elementary education. A study by West, Denton, & Reaney (2016)

identifies Barriers such as limited access to computers, lack of teacher training in

technology integration, and budget constraints. Addressing these challenges is crucial to

maximizing the impact of computer lab initiatives.

Gender and Socioeconomic Factors:

Research by Chai, Koh, & Tsai (2013) suggests that gender and

socioeconomic factors can influence the effectiveness of computer lab usage. Girls

and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds may face additional barriers in

accessing and utilizing computer technology. Consequently, implementing strategies

that promote inclusivity and bridge the digital divide is imperative. 6. Motivation

and Engagement: Computer lab integration can have a profound impact on students'

5
motivation and engagement. Pekrun, Goetz, Titz, and Perry (2002) argue that well-

designed computer-based learning activities can enhance students' intrinsic

motivation, leading to a more positive learning experience and increased academic

performance. Conclusion: The literature reviewed suggests that integrating

computer labs into elementary education holds great potential for enhancing

computer learning at this level. When appropriately utilized, computer labs can

improve academic performance, foster 21st-century skills, and promote digital

5.3. Purpose of the study

The current study was conducted at Govt Girls high school Bagh and the Main

purpose of my research is to find out the effectiveness of computer lab on student

learning.and also devolp the best practice for computer lab implementation.

6. Research design of study

This study adopted quantitative research design. The data was collected by

numerical form. Pre-test and post-test used as a tool of data collection. Data was collected

through random sampling and after collection of the data, it was analyzed by looking at

the respond of the participants. As data was collected and analyzed quantitatively so it is

quantitative research design.

6.1 variable of the study

There was two variable of the study independent and dependent variable. The

dependent variable of the study was learning of computer and independent variable of the

study was computer lab.

7
6.2 Research Type of the study

In this research pre-test and post-test method was used. The research was

conducted through a description survey to describe “ Enhancing the learning of computer

by using computer lab at elementary level in Govt Girls high school Bagh.”

7. Research Participant

7.1 population and Sample

Description of population and Sample)

In research of terminology, the population can be explained as a comprehensive

group of individuals, Institutions, objects and so forth with have common characteristics

that are the interest of a researcher.

The common characteristics of the groups distinguish them from other individuals

institutions, object and so forth. The term universe is also used as a synonym for the

population.

In social science and educational research, practically it is not possible to a

researcher to approach all the individuals/elements in a population for the purpose of data

collection.

Instead, they select and approach a representative groups of individuals/elements

who falls under the particular population to collect needed information regarding the

group.

Based on the results, the researcher generalize the characteristics of the

representative groups as the characteristics of the population. This small group or

representative group from a population is called Sample.

So sample can be defined as the small portion of a population selected for a

particular study. The sample should clearly represent the characteristics of the intended

group.

8
Both population and sample have a special significance in the research process.

Population in its praise explanation is the totality or whole quantity or the universe.

Where else the sample is a smaller representative of the whole.

It is the population from where we get the Sample and it is the sample where from

conclusion.

In the present study all the students of class viii of Govt Girls high school bagh

will be constituted the population and 15 students of class (viii) are taken as a sample for

investigation. The sample description is as below:

School Class Students

8. Research Intervention

After going through the relevant literature and keeping the objective of the study

in mind, I prepared a set of pre and post test and then I personally visited the school to

collect the data.

8.1 Data collection

In an action research report, data collection has an important place. Feedback or

operational part of a report of action research generally includes Pre-Test, Remedial

measurement and Post- test.

Actually Pre-Test and Post-Test is one of the popular kind of experimental design.

In this design the same group is Pre-tested and afterward treatment variable is introduced.

The difference of the Pre-test and Post-test indicate whether there is any problem

in the teaching-learning process.

The teacher may carry out the action research to identify the problems as well as

take Remedial measure based on the dimension of the problems. For this, a well-

9
organized and definite plan of operation with feedback is essential. So through the Pre-

Test and Post-Test a sample can be made for the root cause of the problem.

8.2 Pre-test:

I am administered a test of 15 marks to find out the mistake of the students and to

know the attitude of students towards computer.

Students are taught according to the lesson plan and they are given the same

lesson questions for the Pre-Test and are asked to submit their answer script on the spot.

Student fill up their answer script and submit to the researcher.

Among the 26 students, only 15 students were chosen who were quite poor in

vocabulary.

Table 1 Marks obtained by students in the pre-test are as follows-

From the above result I found out following defects which may be responsible for

the grammatical mistake by the students:

1.Lack of practice in the lab

2.Did not know the use of computer software Ms word EXEL etc.

3.students just focused on theoretical work .

8.3 Remedial measure

From the results of pre-test I found out some causes of percentage of mistakes of

the students. Therefore I provided some remedial measures for overcoming the problems

of the mistake. These are-

1) The students are given training regarding to improve their basic computer skills.

2) Then the students were exposed to different parts of computer.

3) I took computer Chapter No.1 In this case I explained the purpose and importance of

computer to improve basic knowledge for students.

4) I ask the children to write a paragraph on computer.

5) Then children were informed about the software and explained by placing by

computer in front of them. I adopted the appropriate techniques. Like using of the

computer,on or off , software Ms word, EXEL , PowerPoint etc.

6) need proper supervision is taken by the teacher on to improve learning of computer.

8.4 Post-test

After suggestions and remedial measures, a post-test is conducted especially for

those selected students who did not perform well in the first test.

11
The purpose of this test is to find out the improvement in use of computer in the

lab

After post-test intervention was done, such as_

The first questionnaire consists of 3 questions that are administered to the students

which assess the students’ opinion about themselves.

Second, was the observation method. With the help of observation, I tried identify

the problem of the students during classroom interaction.

12
The third was the interview. I interviewed the students individually which helped

me to know their problems in computer subject.

I taught the lesson to the children using Jo New strategies and at the end of the

lesson I gave a test to the children which gave the name of the post and through this test

the performance of the children checked and in this test I asked questions related to this

lesson students gave answer then I prepared a report.

8.5 Data Analysis

Data analysis is the process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming and modeling

data with the goal of discovering, useful information, suggestions, conclusion and

supporting decision-making.

Analysis, refers to breaking a whole into its separate components for individual

examination. Data analysis is a process for obtaining raw data and converting it into

information useful for decision-making by users.

Data is collected and analyzed to answer question, test hypothesis or disprove

theories. After the data collection, data analysis and interpretation is the most important

phases of the research process.

A research must proceed with the appropriate method of data analysis to find out

the inherent meaning and significance of raw data. This is essential for a scientific study

and for ensuring that we have all relevant data for making contemplated comparison and

analyses.

Technically speaking analysis of data implies editing, coding, classification and

tabulation of collected data so that they are amiable to interpret. In simple terms analysis

of data means breaking down the complex factors of tabulated materials into simpler parts

and putting the parts together in the new arrangement in order to determine the inherent

facts and meaning.

13
Analysis of data involves a number of closely related operations which are

performed with the purpose of summarizing the collected data and organizing these in

such a manner that they answer the research questions.

In brief, analysis of data leads the investigator to arrive in a meaningful

conclusion. Again the process of interpretation essentially starting what the result show,

what they mean and what their significance is.

In the present project I collected some reliable information regarding the problem

of computer that effect on learning in the form of numerical data.

The data are tabulated by the simple percentage method and interpreted very

systematically.

The third was the interview. I interviewed the students individually which helped

me to know their problems in computer.

In above mention table we can clearly discuss difference in pre and post test of

student .

There is a big difference in students progress. There is difference of 10 in students

performance.

First of all I took pre test to check students performance, in result of pre test

students performance was not good.. Their performance was not satisfiable then I use

some strategies to improve the learning of computer. Use different strategies to Enhance

students learning after using computer lab strategies and remedial measure I took post test

to check students improvement in learning of computer.

The result of post test shows that students improved their vocabulary they show

good performance in post-test. The mean difference of students improvement in post test

is 10.

15
9. Finding and conclusions
