ADJUSTMENT

ADJUSTMENT
LAYER

An Adjustment Layer applies color and

tonal adjustments to your image without
permanently changing pixel values.

The color and tonal adjustments are

stored in the adjustment layer and apply
to all the layers below it; you can correct
multiple layers by making a single
adjustment, rather than adjusting each
layer separately.
All of Photoshop’s image adjustments are found under the
Image menu in the Menu Bar and then under Adjustments.

Here we find adjustments like Levels and Curves which are

mostly used for correcting the tone of an image. We have
color adjustments like Vibrance, Hue/Saturation and Color
Balance. And there are special effects-type of adjustments
like Posterize, Threshold and Gradient Map. Plus lots more.
LEVELS
You use the Levels adjustment to correct the tonal
range and color balance of an image by adjusting
intensity levels of image shadows, midtones, and
highlights. The Levels histogram is a visual guide for
adjusting the image key tones.

VIBRANCE
Vibrance is a smart tool that increases the intensity of the more muted colors in an image and
leaves the already well-saturated colors alone. It also prevents skin tones from becoming overly
saturated and unnatural. The Vibrance adjustment also has a saturation control, which changes
the intensity of all colors. Saturation can very easily make colors and skin tone look unnatural. It is
recommended to make changes to the images saturation with the Hue/Saturation adjustment
instead of the Vibrance adjustment.

HUE & SATURATION
The Hue/Saturation command adjusts the hue (color),
saturation (purity), and lightness of the entire image or
of individual color components in an image.

Hue: Changes the color of the selected range (e.g.,

changing red to blue).
Light: Adjusts the brightness of the targeted colors,
making them lighter or darker.
Saturation: Increases or decreases the intensity of
the target color.

BLACK AND WHITE

Color photography is indispensable when

colors and shades, or hues, in your image
are distinctive and vivid, allowing you to
see even the most intricate details. Black
and white photography is the better
option when you want to focus on the
subject and the textures in an image
without being distracted by colors. Black
and white effects can help bring out the
drama in your images.
