FLOOR / CHECKERED PLATE FINISHES

EUROPEAN DESIGNATION AMERICAN DESIGNATION

EN-10088-2 1M FINISH N˚1L

DESCRIPTION Engraved type finish obtained by hot rolling. It is available for austenitic stainless steels.
Surface finish according to type 1M defined by EN 10.088.

PROPERTIES • Good mechanical resistance in accordance with standards EN 10.088-2, 10.088-4 and ASTM A 240.
• Non-slip property.
• Rougher and more prominent finishes collect more dirt and debris, and more frequent cleaning may be
necessary to maintain its appearance.

APPLICATIONS It is the perfect solution to stricter safety requirements, since the presence of tears, which occupy at least
20% of the surface, gives it non-slip properties.
• Architectural elements: stairs and floors of industrial plants and other constructions.
• Transportation: scales, truck ramps, etc.

FABRICATION The tear type engraving is obtained by hot rolling, with subsequent annealing and pickling. The engraving
PROCESS operation is carried out on the last pass of the finisher line by means of the use of a roller that carries
the tears carved, and that mark the band only on one side. The tear finish obtained by this method, and
thanks to the lamination techniques used, has a uniform and reproducible finish throughout the entire
length of the coil.

Resbaladicity - Slip resistance tests

Results of the tests carried out by the WESSEX Laboratory, accredited by ENAC
according to DIN and EN Standards on AISI 304/304L-EN 1.4301/1.4307 samples.

1 CRITICAL ANGLE TESTING OF PAVEMENTS, ACCORDING TO DIN 51130: 2014 Section 5

This standard establishes a procedure to classify slip resistance of floor coverings, the application of which is
intended for places and areas of work where there is a risk of slipping. The angle of inclination of the surface marks
the limit at which the person performing the test walks with surface safety (critical angle), that is, a surface will be
more slip resistant the greater the angle is achieved without losing stability.
The critical angle is calculated on a pavement on which lubricant has been applied. Each technician performed the
test 3 times on each sample, obtaining the average values observed in Table 1:

2 SLIDING RESISTANCE TEST FOR PAVEMENTS WITHOUT POLISH, ACCORDING TO UNE-ENV 12633: 2003 ANNEX A

This standard establishes a procedure to determine the value of resistance to sliding of unpolished pavements,
using a friction pendulum test equipment that evaluates the friction properties of the specimens. Its maximum
oscillation (which depends on the slipperiness of the tested surface) on a scale of values from 0 to 150. The higher
the digit, the lower the slipperiness.
The average resistance value (Table 2) is obtained by measuring in 4 specimens. In addition, the Spanish building
technical code (CTE) establishes floor classes according to their slipperiness, from the values obtained tested with
the UNE-ENV 12633: 2003(*).

(*) This UNE-ENV 12633: 2003 Standard has been

withdrawn by AENOR and the European Commis-

sion and it became the technical specification CEN/
02 47 3 TS 12633: 2014. Despite being cancelled by AE-
NOR, UNE-ENV 12633: 2003 standard remains to-
03 50 3 day, referenced in the current Spanish CTE DB SUA
and will continue to have regulatory value, being of
compulsory compliance. It is available in AENOR.

3 SLIP RESISTANCE TEST BY THE METHOD OF FRICTION PENDULUM, ACCORDING TO UNE 41901: 2007.

This standard establishes a test method to determine the resistance value to the sliding of paving surfaces for
transit of people by the friction pendulum, wet. Its maximum oscillation (which depends on the slipperiness of the
tested surface) varies on a scale of values from 0 to 150. The higher the digit, the lower the slipperiness.
