Explain the lines "There was a pious stillness and humour in each of
them which on the one hand delighted me and on the other frightened
me."
ANSWER:-
● In the story "The Summer of the Beautiful, White Horse." written
by William Saroyan the above lines meant that the narrator was
both afraid and fascinated by the whole situation which resulted
in him directing these words. Here, both the horse and Mourad
were so quiet and steady that it was almost humorous. The
narrator was similarly drawn to the horse and Mourad as he was
frightened of the possible outcomes of his act.
CHARACTERS
1. Mourad -
● He was considered crazy by everyone
● He had intense obsession with horses
● Mourad enjoyed being alive more than anybody
else who had ever fallen into the world by mistake,
● Mourad who was considered one of the craziest
members of our family

● Had obsession for horses
3. Garoghlanian Tribe -
● They were poor and poverty stricken
● They were living in the most comical and amazing
poverty in the world
● Non one knew how they have managed oto keep their
bellies full
● Garoghlanian tribe were known for their honesty
● They were first proud then honest and then believed in
right and wrong
● They would never steal
