1 INTRODUCTION
Dear Student,
You have progressed to the stage of summative assessment for the module BOT1501. This
Tutorial (TUT) letter serves the purpose of providing you with useful Examination Guidelines to
follow as you prepare for the upcoming examination.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the National State of Disaster requiring social distancing as
a means to avoid its spread. To this end the management of Unisa took a decision that there will
be no face-to-face contact activities during the first semester, including examinations. As such,
the examination of this module, like all other modules at Unisa, will be conducted online.

2 PURPOSE OF TUTORIAL LETTER


The purpose of this tutorial letter is to provide you with the format of the BOT1501 examination
May/June 2024.

3 FORMAT OF THE EXAM FOR SEMESTER I


The examination will be conducted online as follows:
1. The examination question paper will consist of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) ONLY.
2. The examination question paper consists of 50 questions and each question is equal to 2
marks which makes a total of 100 marks.
3. Kindly take note that the examination questions will be randomly distributed i.e. you will
not get the questions in the same sequence.
4. The examination will be managed on the myUnisa platform.
5. The date of the examination will be 24/05/2024 starting at 10H30 until 13h15.
6. The duration of the examination will be 2 hours 30 minutes.

It is important that you study all prescribed chapters for BOT1501 in your recommended book
(Plant Biology: New International Edition, 2nd Edition, Graham et al., 2014) as well as the study
guide. The following are important:
✓ The exercises (questions) in your study guide are a good exercise to assist you in your
preparation. Revise them fully.
✓ The questions in your assignments. Revise them fully.
✓ The exercises in your learning study guide together with those in the prescribed book.
Revise them fully.

✓ IMPORTANT: The prescribed learning units can be found on myUnisa under “Learning
Units.” Do not be selective in your preparation. PLEASE STUDY ALL PRESCRIBED
SECTIONS.

5 WHERE TO FIND THE EXAMINATION PAPER


The examination questions will be available on myExams at the start of the session on the day of
the examination. Login with your student number and myUnisa password.
Claim your myUnisa password before the start of the examination if you have not done so already.
5.1 Steps to follow to access to the examination
On the day of the examination, do the following:
1. 15 minutes before the examination commences, access the myExams
(https://caes.myexams.unisa.ac.za/my/index.php) site.

Follow the steps on how to submit your MCQ answers from the general guide.

1. The answers to the examination MCQ may only be submitted online.

2. Access myExams at https://caes.myexams.unisa.ac.za/my/index.php and login using


your student number and myUnisa password.
