Blending, reductions and linking.

A few days have passed since I started to think about this topic I will be sharing
with you today. The reason I waited is that I didn’t want to do things on the spur of
the moment, and immediately type my thoughts on the matter without having a
closer glimpse to it now and then. -I mean-, I didn’t want to rush it, and that closer
look helped a great deal. -By the way-, when you do something “on the spur of the
moment” means that you go and do it without any further contemplation. We
could say that when we do something “on the spur of the moment”, we act
impulsively. For this “alive” podcast I will be dropping some common
spoken-English expressions and phrasal verbs here and there just to ensure that
you learn something interesting while listening to me talking about this topic.
Let’s go straight to the point, shall we?

But before that, for all of you who don’t know it yet, I’m Axley. I’m an English tutor
for the Latinx community and, as a non-native speaker of English, the ultimate
goal for me is to provide all my students with the means to feel confident and
comfortable when speaking English. I’m the creator of Towards Languages, a
beautiful space devoted to the spreading of the English language, among other
things - because, I also speak French, or try to (chuckles). I talk in depth about this
project in the Towards English podcast. In its first episode, I go over what this
project intends and where it’s headed. I’m going to make sure to embed the link if
you’re interested. I will be delighted and grateful.

That notion of easiness and self-trust is beyond a level. Whether it be you’ve been
told you are a B1, A2 or C1, it simply doesn’t matter. Communication is the key. If
you’re talking about the weather or the things you do every day, if you do it
confidently and easily, well, you are fluent to me. -And actually-, the thing about
levels is so over my head sometimes… -Oh yeah-, when something is “over your
head” means that you don’t understand it. See? Another phrasal verb! So stay
here.

This video could be considered suitable for upper-intermediate learners, but even
beginners can stay here and take advantage of this, so don’t be scared if you
hear fancy words I use. For each video there will be a vocabulary sheet that you
can download explaining all the vocabulary I use. And now that I mention the
thing about levels, I just want to say that it is so over my head.
