EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

I decided to create a CSR project titled "A study of CSR with reference to Khushiyaan
Foundation". The first section introduces the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility, the
reasons why organizations should undertake CSR activities, and examples of corporations
that do so, as well as the importance and benefits of doing so. Following that, the initiative
mentioned Kohinoor Business School's profile and its path in terms of social responsibility.

Khushiyaan, as the name suggests, is dedicated to bringing happiness to poor people in

society and the environment. Khushiyaan Foundation is formally registered under the
Mumbai Public Trust Act, 1950, and the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The Khushiyaan
Foundation was founded by a young team led by Mr. Chinu Kwatra.

Khushiyaan Foundation can be described as an implementing organization that plans and

executes numerous developmental projects. Through this project, we did a lot of activities
under Khushiyaan Foundation, understanding each and every project, such as the old age
home at Anant Khushiyaan Niwas, where we got the opportunity to meet aged people and
get to know about their daily routines and what they do all day, and the orphanage at Anant
Khushiyaan Niwas, where we spent 7 days joined them and participated in many activities
and games with children, as well as Beach Warriors, an initiative organized by the
Khushiyaan Foundation that focuses on cleaning several beaches in Mumbai. This exercise
involves a large number of volunteers.

This project will help us understand the importance of beach cleanup and how the
Khushiyaan Foundation effectively runs other programs to make a difference in society.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

A self-regulating business concept known as "corporate social responsibility" (CSR) assists an

organization in being held socially responsible by the public, its stakeholders, and itself.

The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, has become increasingly prominent in
the last few years. It describes a business's voluntarily made attempts to accept responsibility for
its impact it has on the environment and society. CSR essentially entails businesses going above
and beyond their legal commitments and pursuing a more environmentally and socially
conscious business style.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) extends the role of businesses beyond profit-making to
encompass societal and environmental considerations. It emphasizes the importance of
businesses contributing positively to the well-being of their stakeholders and the broader
community. This can be achieved through various means, including adopting sustainable
practices, supporting local communities through philanthropy and volunteering, and upholding
ethical standards in business operations. By embracing CSR, companies can enhance their
reputation, build stronger relationships with stakeholders, and contribute to a more sustainable
and equitable future.

By embracing CSR, companies not only enhance their reputation but also foster stronger
relationships with their stakeholders. This can lead to increased customer loyalty, employee
satisfaction, and investor confidence, ultimately contributing to long-term success. Moreover,
CSR aligns with the growing societal expectation for businesses to be responsible corporate
citizens, making it not just a good practice but a necessity in today's world.

Consequently, companies that place emphasis on CSR stand to gain a competitive edge in the
market and establish enduring relationships with their stakeholders over the long term.

Reasons why organization should implement CSR activities:

1. Enhanced Reputation: A strong CSR program showcases the company's commitment

to social and environmental responsibility, which enhances its image in the eyes of
customers, investors, and the public. This positive reputation can be a valuable asset,
particularly during times of crisis or controversy.

1
2. Competitive Advantage: Companies that prioritize CSR often stand out in crowded
markets. Consumers increasingly prefer to support businesses that demonstrate ethical
and sustainable practices, giving socially responsible companies a competitive edge.

3. Increased Customer Loyalty: When customers perceive that a company is genuinely

committed to making a positive impact, they're more likely to remain loyal. CSR
initiatives can foster emotional connections with customers, leading to long-term
relationships and repeat business.

4. Employee Engagement: Engaging employees in CSR activities can boost morale, job
satisfaction, and productivity. Employees feel a sense of pride and purpose when they're
involved in initiatives that benefit their communities or the environment.

5. Attracting Talent: In today's job market, employees seek more than just a pay check—
they want to work for companies that share their values. A robust CSR program helps
attract and retain top talent by demonstrating the company's commitment to making a
difference beyond profits.

6. Risk Management: Addressing social and environmental issues through CSR can
mitigate various risks, including reputational damage, legal liabilities, and regulatory
fines. Proactively managing these risks can protect the company's bottom line and
safeguard its future.

7. Access to Capital: Investors are increasingly integrating environmental, social, and

governance (ESG) factors into their investment decisions. Companies with strong CSR
programs are more likely to attract investment capital and may enjoy lower borrowing
costs due to reduced risk perceptions.

8. Innovation: CSR encourages companies to think creatively about how they can address
pressing social and environmental challenges. This focus on sustainability can drive
innovation, leading to the development of new products, services, and business models
that benefit both society and the bottom line.

9. License to Operate: Building positive relationships with communities, regulators, and

other stakeholders is essential for maintaining the company's "license to operate." By
engaging in CSR activities that benefit these stakeholders, companies can build trust and
goodwill, ensuring continued support for their operations.

10. Long-Term Sustainability: Integrating CSR into business strategies promotes the long-
term sustainability of both the business and the planet. By addressing social and

2
environmental issues, companies contribute to a more stable and prosperous future for
themselves and society as a whole. This focus on sustainability helps ensure the
company's continued success in the face of evolving market dynamics and societal
expectations.

Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) empowers businesses to positively impact society, the
environment, customers, and stakeholders.

Let's delve into the importance OF CSR:

The concept allows every employee in an organization to contribute to societal betterment,

environmental conservation, and national progress. While self-interest drives us, there's
unparalleled fulfilment in serving others. Implementing CSR initiatives, like educating
underprivileged children, not only brings personal satisfaction but also brightens lives. It's time
we prioritize caring for the less fortunate in our communities. Through CSR, businesses can
drive societal advancement and foster a better world.

CSR plays a pivotal role in enhancing the organization's reputation. Acts of goodwill towards
communities, stakeholders, and clients not only elevate the company but also ensure long-term
growth and success. CSR boosts brand popularity, resonating positively with consumers, media,
and peers. Engaging in meaningful initiatives, regardless of financial size, demonstrates genuine
care. By embracing CSR, companies build trust and loyalty among employees and the wider
community. Employees derive immense happiness from contributing to CSR initiatives,
fostering teamwork and camaraderie. CSR initiatives strengthen organizational bonds and
cultivate a sense of social responsibility among employees.

Working for a socially conscious company is appealing, as it reflects compassionate

management. CSR enhances brand perception, earning the trust of customers, leading to
increased revenue through positive word-of-mouth. Amidst work pressures, it's essential to
acknowledge the world beyond and extend support to those in need.

Exploring remote villages as part of CSR initiatives can be eye-opening, revealing societal
challenges and opportunities for positive change. Ultimately, CSR drives societal progress,
benefiting all stakeholders. The significance of CSR lies in organizations recognizing their role
in societal development and promoting awareness among corporations and the public. Dynamic

3
and adaptable businesses drive economic growth, underscoring the interconnectedness between
corporate success and societal advancement.

Effective implementation of CSR

Setting Measurable and Achievable Sustainability Goals Is Essential for the Effective
Implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Businesses. This involves
reducing carbon emissions, encouraging energy conservation, and putting sustainable supply
chain and sourcing practices into effect.

Engage Stakeholders: In order to fully understand the requirements and expectations of their
stakeholders, businesses should engage with them. Customers, staff members, vendors, and
communities are all included in this. Businesses may make sure that their CSR programs meet
the demands of their stakeholders by interacting with them.

Benefits of Corporate Social Responsibility

1. Cost Savings: CSR initiatives can help companies save costs by reducing waste,
improving efficiency, and minimizing risks. For example, investing in energy-efficient
technologies can reduce energy costs and lower carbon emissions.

2. Increased Customer Loyalty: CSR efforts resonating with customer values can bolster
their allegiance to the brand. Customers tend to prefer and advocate for socially
responsible companies, thereby strengthening loyalty and retention.

3. Enhanced Reputation: Companies embracing CSR initiatives are perceived more

favourably by customers, employees, and stakeholders. Demonstrating responsibility
and ethical conduct enhances brand reputation, fostering customer loyalty and attracting
new patrons.

4. Access to New Markets: CSR initiatives open doors to new markets and business
prospects. Companies advocating sustainability can tap into markets seeking eco-
friendly products, thereby expanding their customer base and revenue streams.

4
5. Risk Mitigation: Engaging in CSR practices reduces the likelihood of legal, financial,
or reputational risks associated with unethical behaviour or environmental harm. CSR
fosters responsible business conduct, thus mitigating potential risks.

6. Improved Employee Engagement: CSR initiatives imbue employees with a sense of

purpose and pride in their work, boosting morale and engagement. This leads to
heightened productivity, decreased turnover, and a more positive work environment.

7. Stimulated Innovation: CSR fosters a culture of innovation by prompting companies

to seek novel solutions to social and environmental challenges. This drive for innovation
yields new products, services, and business models beneficial to both the company and
society.

We went to the Aashram on March 20, 2024. We discovered that the Ashram is home to 12
children. They were all from various age groups and were studying in different standards. We
spoke with the students' caretakers before engaging with them to try to grasp the students'
mindsets while she provided us with some information. The 12 children namely Reshma,

Ananya, Samruddhi, Neha, Nandini, Nidhi, Neel, Samrat, Aarush, Sagar, Priyanshu, Gaurav.
Who live there are usually observed by the caregivers, who also schedule play and TV time for
the kids. None of the kids are permitted to leave the campus without permission.

Subsequently, we engaged with the kids. Initially, they were seated in a row and each introduced
themselves by sharing their name, favourite subject, and desired career path. Few of them aspire
to work as doctors, scientists, lawyers, or police.

19
CHAPTER 9: CONCLUSION

While engaging in CSR initiatives with the KHUSHIYAAN Foundation, I've realized the
profound importance of our responsibility to society. Through our work, I've encountered both
elderly individuals and orphaned children, each facing unique challenges. Mr. Chinku Khatra,
the visionary behind this NGO, has established ashram to cater to their needs.

For the elderly, who often find themselves abandoned and without proper care, The Khushiyaan
foundation provide not just shelter but also essential medical support. Similarly, for orphaned
children who have been forsaken by their families, these shelters offer a haven and opportunities
for education, nurturing them into compassionate individuals.

Beyond the confines of corporate social responsibility, it becomes imperative for us to regularly
visit these ashram, not merely as a duty but as a gesture of humanity. Spending time with these
individuals, offering them companionship and joy, holds immense significance. Though we may
not be able to undo their past sorrows, the small acts of kindness we extend can make a world
of difference in their lives.
