Lab #1

Date: September 2023

Title: Feeding Relationships
Aim: to examine the different feeding relationships on the terrestrial ground
Apparatus/Materials: pencil, notebook, ruler, camera
Method:
Students went outside and observed at least six plants and ten animals.
Organisms along with their source of food were also recorded in a table.
Students observed animals and plants for feeding, symbiotic, and other special
relationships and interdependence.
The list compiled was used to make five food chains and one food web.
The feeding and symbiotic relationships found were organized and discussed.

Observations:

TABLE SHOWING ORGANISMS AND WHAT THEY FEED ON

Organisms Sources of Food (What they feed on)
guava autotroph
spider fly
At least 10 including plants

FOOD CHAINS (3 chains)

FOOD WEB (1 web)

Discussion:
Background information, define key terms such as food chains, food webs, and symbiosis.
Discuss or explain feeding relationships observed. What were the examples of predator-prey,
mutualism, commensalism, parasitism? What are special relationships observed and why? Use
recorded data to describe trends. Have you observed the presence of a particular type of
organism? Have humans interfered with the observed environment in any way? Are any
organisms in danger?

Lab #4
Date: October 2023
Title: Soil Components
Aim: to examine the components of a sample of soil
Apparatus/Materials: pencil, notebook, soil sample, jar or bottle, water.
Method:
A sample of soil was retrieved.
The sample was placed in a jar one-third way up.
Water was then added almost to the top.
The jar was shaken vigorously and then allowed to stand undisturbed for 48 hours.
The layers were observed and a diagram used to represent the layers or components of
soil.

Observations:

DIAGRAM SHOWING SOIL COMPONENTS

Students are to draw and label components.

Discussion:
Background information about soils and soil components. Explain layers formed and observed.
