I. Kim’s Family
A. Family Situation
1. Poor
2. Survival
“Parasite” tells the story of the Kim family, who lives in a small, dingy basement
apartment in Seoul. They struggle to make ends meet and survive by doing odd jobs until their
son Ki-woo gets a job tutoring the daughter of the wealthy Park family. Ki-woo begins to see the
opportunity for his family to infiltrate the Park family’s life and gain their trust. They slowly start
to deceive the Park family and take over their jobs as well as their home.
Kim Kithaek lives with his wife Jung-sook and two grown children in a meagre basement
apartment. Family members are in poverty and barely make ends meet. The youngest son Ki-
woo gets a lucky ticket – an acquaintance invites him to give English lessons to a girl from a
wealthy Pak family. Ki-wu does not refuse the given opportunity and begins to drag his relatives
with him.
As the Kim family becomes more ingrained in the Park family’s lives, they discover a
hidden secret within the Park household, leading to unexpected consequences. The movie
takes a dark turn as the two families’ lives become intertwined and secrets are revealed,
ultimately leading to a tragic and violent ending.
The movie’s visual style is also impressive, with beautiful and artistic shots that are both
stunning and meaningful. The use of symbolism and Metaphor throughout the movie is
masterful, adding layers of depth and complexity to the story.
