Life in the Past and Life in the Present

Every paragraph should start with a topic sentence. The topic sentence gives the reader the general idea of
the text. Then, there must be developing sentences. The developing sentences clarify the topic sentence, and explain
the general idea. Finally, there must be a concluding sentence. This latter sums up the paragraph by
recapitulating what was said. Another crucial element in a paragraph is the linking words. The linking words link the
ideas smoothly and logically.

It is needless to say that life in the present is totally different from life in the past in different
ways, especially in terms of transportation, communication, entertainment, and eating habits. To
begin with, in the past, people used to travel by carts. This was very slow, and uncomfortable. On
the contrary, now people travel by cars and planes. This is faster, safer, and more
comfortable. Moreover, they used to communicate through pigeons, than later letters in the mail
landline phones. However, today they use all kinds of smart technologies, such as internet, laptops,
and smartphones. Furthermore, for entertainment, people used to listen to the radio, but now they
use cable TVs, satellite dishes, and the Internet. One last difference is that people in the past used
to eat food they made at home. Yet in today’s world, most people eat fast food. To sum up, life
nowadays differs from life in the early days in many different positive ways.
