The airline's CEO Greg Foran told AM on Tuesday they made the choice to up the price
because they need to get on top of demand as well as rising costs of fuel and inflation.

"We've got a situation with demand being pretty high, people very keen to travel - we saw
that yesterday when we launched Bali - and us just not having the same amount of planes
available to fly," Foran told AM co-host Ryan Bridge.

"We're bringing them back as quickly as we can, we have of course got a mix of inflation
coming in there, included in that is fuel and the solution at this point is for us to get more
capacity out there so there are more seats and to make sure that we do everything we can
to keep prices down."

It comes as travellers are unhappy as airfares continue to skyrocket after COVID-19 with
some complaining they're costing two or three times what they did pre-pandemic.

Foran said a lot of their expenses like fuel and

inflation are out of their hands, so reducing the
costs of domestic flights might not happen
anytime soon.

"We're doing our best to get that down as

quickly as we can and we've got the first of a
new jet arriving today into the country, we've

Labour has announced Georgie Dansey will be the party's candidate at the
Hamilton West by-election.

Dansey is the chief executive of the Independent Schools Education Association,

owns Body Fit Training in Te Awamutu, and was a list candidate for Labour in
2020.

"Georgie's years of experience representing education workers and running her

own business makes her ideally suited to advocate for Hamiltonians inside
Government and ensure workers and business voices are represented," said
Labour President Claire Szabó.

"She brings a great perspective and represents Labour's values of fairness and
opportunity in this by-election."

Dansey, who whakapapas to Ngāti Tūwharetoa, said she's looking forward to the
campaign.

"The people of Hamilton West deserve to have a strong, progressive voice inside
government. I can provide that voice," Dansey said.

"In this by-election I want the focus to be on accelerating progress for our
community. No one has benefited from the recent drama with the outgoing MP.
It’s time to move on and get back to focusing on the real issues Hamiltonians
face, and I’m committed to working for Hamilton West on the issues that matter
to them."

National revealed on Monday three nominees for its candidate for the by-
election: Rachel Afeaki-Taumoepeau, Frances Hughes, and Tama Potaka. The
Opportunities Party has submitted Naomi Pocock as its candidate.
