Construction Class: Day 6

Pythagoras of Samos was an ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician, best

known for the Pythagorean theorem, which bears his name. Although he is often

heralded as a great mathematician, his contributions extend far beyond

mathematics into the realms of music, astronomy, and philosophy. Born around
570 BCE on the island of Samos in Greece, Pythagoras traveled widely in his

youth, studying under various teachers in Egypt and Babylon. One of Pythagoras'

most notable achievements is the Pythagorean theorem, a fundamental principle in

geometry. The theorem states that in a right-angled triangle, the square of the

length of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of

the squares of the lengths of the other two sides. This theorem is widely used in
various fields, including architecture, engineering, and physics, and is a

cornerstone of geometry.
