Assignment Meeting 11 Probability and Statistics
Assignment Meeting 11 Probability and Statistics
Suppose a large conference room of a company can be used maximal 4 hours. Both long and short
conferences occur quite frequently. Assuming that the length (time) of the X conference is uniformly
distributed over the interval [0, 4].
a. Determine pdf of X !
b. What is the probability that each conference lasts at least 3 hours?
c. What is the probability that a meeting in that room will take place at most 3 hours long?
d. What is the average length of the meeting in that room?
The response time of a computer is one application of exponential distribution. Suppose a study that
studies the response time of the system computer (in seconds) has an exponential distribution with a
mean of 3 seconds.
a. What is the probability that the computer's response time is greater than 5 seconds?
b. What is the probability that the computer's response time is less than 10 seconds?
c. A telephone call arrives at the switching board following a Poisson process, with an average of 5
connections per minute. Determine the probability that 1 minute passed only 2 connections
came?
Let X is a random variable that represents the response time of an online computer (time between user
input and output display). The random variable X is distributed exponential with a mean of 5 seconds.
