air will enter the detector. Contaminated air can enter the detector. Intermittent alarms can result.
Make sure that the flexible bellows for the rear of the measuring head forms a good seal.

6. Install the measuring head. Secure the measuring head with the eight screws.

7. Connect the electrical plug.

Replacement of the Electronic Module

A faulty electronic module can cause the following conditions:

Fault 2 and 3 - The electronic module is faulty.

Fault 4 - The infrared measuring track is faulty.

Fault 5 - The "Alarm Level" switch is faulty.

Typical cover plate for the electronic module

The rear of the measuring head has a cover plate for the electronic module. The following information is
printed on the cover plate by the factory:

If any changes are made to the above items, the changes must be recorded. Space is provided on the
cover plate for recording the changes.

If the electronic module and/or the measuring head is replaced, it is important for the settings and
the resistors of the replacement component to be identical to the original component. Refer to the
cover plate for the information. This will help to avoid false alarms.

Electrostatic Discharge

Electronic equipment is sensitive to static. Some components are more sensitive than other components.
The electronic module has components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. In order to protect
these components from static damage, you must take special precautions.

Use the following precautions to help reduce static electricity when you work with the electronic
module.

1. Synthetic fibers tend to build up static electricity. Avoid wearing synthetic clothing. Wear cotton
or cotton blended materials as much as possible because these materials do not store electric
charges as much as synthetic fibers.

2. Before you work on the electronic module, discharge the static electricity from your person.
Touch a grounded metal object or hold onto a grounded metal object in order to discharge static
electricity.

3. Keep synthetic materials away from the control module and the work area. The following items
are examples of products that need to be avoided: plastic cups, styrofoam cups, cup holder,
cellophane wrappers, books with vinyl, folders with vinyl, plastic bottles and plastic ashtrays.

4. Unless it is necessary, do not remove the printed circuit board from the measuring head. If you
must remove the circuit board, follow these precautions:

Do not touch any part of the printed circuit board except the edges.

Do not use your hands to touch these parts: electrical conductors, connectors and
components with conductive devices.

Circuit boards are shipped in protective packaging that resists static buildup. When you
replace a printed circuit board, store the new board in the protective package until you are
ready to install the new board. Immediately after you remove the old circuit board, place the
circuit board in the protective package.

NOTICE
The electronic module has components that are sensitive to
electrostatic discharge. Use the proper procedures in order to help
avoid damage to the module. Do not touch the infrared filters or the
electronic circuitry. Use a ground strap on your wrist.

5. Unplug cable connector (6) from the socket in order to remove the electronic module from the
measuring head.

6. Use lint free tissue to clean the infrared filters for the diodes of the new electronic module.

7. Plug the cable connector of the new electronic module into the socket of the measuring head.

8. Tighten the three hexagonal distance bolts on the electronic module.

9. Install the cover plate. Secure the cover plate with the three screws.
