WHAT IS REPITITION?
1. Anaphora
Anaphora is the repetition of a word or group of words at the beginning of successive clauses or
sentences.
2. Epistrophe
Similar to anaphora is epistrophe. Epistrophe is the repetition of a word or group of words at the end of
successive clauses or sentences.
3. Symploce
Symploce is the use of both anaphora and epistrophe. Bill Clinton famously used symploce in his speech
at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
“When there is talk of hatred, let us stand up and talk against it. When there is talk of violence, let us stand
up and talk against it.”
