II. Objectives

* Interpret the poem's message.

* Build awareness of African situations.

* Construct reflective writing based on the poem.

* Recommend the poem to other individuals.

III. Reflection Paper

I am an African Child poem bestows dignity to the African people and illustrates a child that is proud of
his identity and race despite the racism and problems they went through. The poem also gives
awareness to the other community who are not African that they are capable of doing worthy things.
The poet also tells how Africans were condemned by other people because of their history, lots of
people see them as charitable civilizations who can't invent promising innovations. Hence, the poet
wants to clarify this kind of mindset from the people. He said that if they will be given the materials
they will use then they can create something bigger than the expectations of the world for they are the
new generation of Africa.

Likewise, I have learned from the poem, that people will always criticize you because of your past, they
will always connect your yore to your future without thinking that you have changed or that you are
different from the past, and that you are your new version of yourself and capable of doing things
exceeding their expectations. It is indeed true that some people are hard to please and hard to persuade
by altering their perspective of that person. Sadly, people are condemned to stereotypes, whereas, they
see people according to the gossip and past of others without observing nor figuring out the abilities of
that person or that certain group of people. Accordingly, the poem tells us to see things not in a
negative way but positively, and that we must not be condemned with stereotypes.

IV. Conclusion

As we are in a world where racism and discrimination are rampant we can't hide the fact that most
victims of this are Africans. They were seen as people who are incapable of fleeing from poverty. Thus, it
is time that we will alter this mindset about the African people, we must recognize the talent they have,
the skills they possess, and the fact that they are in the new generation. It is time that we will move on
from the image they have from their history and see them from a modern viewpoint with respect. As
the poem says, "We are the new generation. Not afraid to be us. Uniquely gifted, black and talented.
Shining like the stars we are. We are the children of Africa. Making the best of us".

lV. Recommendation
I am an African child is an eye-opener poem to the people, not only for African people but also for
ourselves. It opens our minds to accepting people the way they are and to stop linking the past negative
events that had happened before to the present. This poem also emphasizes the capabilities of a
person, it indicates that a person has abilities to make a change if they will show it and be themselves.
As with this poem, I suggest that people will read it to be enlightened about the abilities of African
people and their strong power to stand for their race regardless of what others say. Reading this poem
furnishes equality to people anyhow of their origins. It is a.
