Dear Parents and Guardians,

During this upcoming term the students in year 8, will be participating in our College
Swimming and Water Safety program. This unit is a compulsory part of our Physical
Education Curriculum and is in accordance with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment
Authority (VCAA) guidelines and will run for approximately 6 weeks.

Water safety is a crucial life skill, especially in Australia where we are surrounded by
beautiful beaches, rivers, and pools. By participating in this program, students will learn vital
techniques that could potentially save lives in aquatic environments. Additionally, swimming
is a fantastic form of exercise that promotes physical fitness and overall well-being.

It is an expectation that all Year 8 students are to actively participate in the program.
However, we understand that some students may have medical conditions or other
circumstances that prevent them from participating. In such cases, a valid medical certificate
will be required, and alternative arrangements will be made to ensure their continued
engagement in the curriculum.

The program will run during Physical Education classes. 8J will be starting this FRIDAY 16th
April and will miss next Friday due to my absence but will still complete the entire 6 lesson
program.

To ensure the smooth running of the program, we kindly ask that students come prepared
with the following:
 Full College PE uniform
 Students should bring appropriate swimwear; this does not need to be the
college bathers and can be whatever the student feels most comfortable wearing.
Please note girls are expected to be wearing a one-piece swimsuit.
 Tote bag or plastic bag with bathers, rash vest, and shorts. (No schoolbags
allowed)
 Goggles
 Towel

The program will be conducted under the supervision of qualified instructors at our college
pool, who will ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. If you have
any concerns or queries regarding the Year 8 Water Safety and Swimming Program, please
do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,
