Getting started
Objective:
• To understand the concept of greeting
Time required: 5 minutes
Material required: the book, Smart Board
A. Sing
Procedure:
1. Ask learners to listen to the song and sing along.
2. After they sing, ask them when they use these greetings.
Procedure:
1. Ask learners what they can see in the picture.
2. Tell them that the girl and the boy are having a conversation
about greetings.
3. Inform them that you are going to play an audio. Then, play
the audio.
4. Instruct them to listen attentively to Arjun and Rima’s
conversation and ask them to focus on what greeting is used
at what time of the day.
5. Ask them questions about the greetings used in the
conversation.
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to comprehend the information in
the conversation.
B2. Sort
Procedure:
1. Read out the task given in the book.
2. Replay the audio and ask learners to identify the greetings
that can be used at any time of day.
3. Instruct them to colour the stars with greetings that can be
used at any time of day.
4. Discuss the answers in class.
Answer key:
Colour the stars with these speech bubbles: Hello, Hi, Goodbye
C. Introduce
Procedure:
1. Ask any two learners to play Tina and Arvind and role-play
the conversation given in the book.
2. Then, ask all learners to work in pairs and role-play the given
conversation.
3. Then, play the video and encourage learners to watch it
attentively.
Teaching tip: Tell learners to maintain eye contact and smile
when meeting and greeting someone. They should be in a
good posture too.
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to greet others properly and introduce
themselves confidently.
D1. Sing
Procedure:
1. Play the song.
2. Ask learners to listen to the song attentively. Then, play it
again and ask learners to sing along.
3. Help them speak the words correctly.
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to say words beginning with the
consonant sounds n, p, s, t.
D2. Repeat
1. Play the audio.
2. Ask learners to listen attentively to the beginning sound of
each word and repeat the word.
3. Help learners understand and pronounce the sound of each
consonant correctly.
Extended activity: You may ask learners to say more words
beginning with each sound.
Procedure:
1. Ask learners to form groups of four and choose a leader, or
appoint one in each group.
2. Ask the leader to point at one picture at a time and the
other learners of the group will greet each other according
to the time of the day.
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to greet each other appropriately as
per the time of the day.
Getting started
Objective:
• To practise greeting people
Time required: 5 minutes
Material required: a ball
Procedure:
1. Read out the task under Fun Activity.
2. Demonstrate to learners what has to be done by playing a
round of the game with them.
3. Ensure that all learners get a chance to greet someone.
B3. Match
Procedure:
1. Play the audio.
2. Ask learners to listen attentively to the audio where people
are greeting each other.
B4. Gap-fill
1. Read out the task given in the book.
2. Play the audio with the conversation between Priya and
Manav.
3. Ask learners to fill in the blanks after listening to the audio.
4. Discuss the answers in class.

Procedure:

D4. Identify
Procedure:
1. Ask learners to read the words aloud in each row.
2. Encourage them to focus on the common sound in
the words in each row. Then, ask them to underline the
letter representing that sound.

Dictation time
Objectives:
• To familiarize learners with words and phrases
• To assess understanding of sounds and spelling
Time required: 10 minutes
Materials required: the book, Smart Board, a pencil and
an eraser
Procedure:
1. Inform the learners that they are going to hear a few words.
2. Instruct them to write down the words that they hear, using
the correct spelling.
3. Play the audio.
4. Let them listen attentively and write down each word as
they listen.
5. Pause after each word, giving them ample time to write.
