Reflection:

Factual:
Historical fiction is a genre of literature in which the setting of story/
novel/poem/play is set in the historical past. Some conventions of
historical fiction are, using historical vocabulary and the story must be
written at least 50 years after the actual events. Accurate details
corresponding to the time period such as the food they ate and the
clothes they wore should be used to establish a believable historical
setting that is being described.

Conceptual:
We can use factual events to create fiction by adding some fictional
elements. Elements that aren't true are added to a real story to add
some spice to the tale, to make it more interesting and immersive.
Reading historical fiction can help us understand the past by giving us
an immersive experience in the book. They profusely help to imagine the
past. It teaches lessons about mistakes that humans made in the past
that shouldn’t be made again.

Debatable:
No, historical fiction does nor blur the boundaries between fiction and
reality. Reality will always be the centre point of historical fiction. The
fictional element is just added to elevate the story and help it reach more
people. No, child poverty is not only a thing of the past, it still exists now.
Many children around the world such as in India and Africa don't get
enough food or water.

Skills:
Firstly, I used thinking skills to analyse the book that was read in class,
which was ‘Ruby in the Smoke’. This helped me understand what
historical fiction is and how to write it including the manner which should
be used to write the start of historical fiction.

Secondly, we used communication skills while writing the first chapter of

our books for our summatives. I used communication skills for asking
questions to my grandparents and other related people as part of
researching the story/plot. It is an essential skill to have.

Next, I used research skills to research about the partition between India
and Pakistan that happened in 1947. I also researched the genre
historical fiction using the textbook and some other historical fiction
books. I have been researching for many other subjects and have
improved drastically over the last two years.

Finally, I used organisation skills to structure our writing into paragraphs,

and I made a book cover and format for my chapter. I also used
organisation skills when I created character files.

I was an inquirer because I was able to ask questions to the right people
and at the correct time. I answer several important questions of the
summative assessment.

Researching went well because I was able to ask the right questions to
the necessary people and get the required information to write my story.
However, I feel I could have added more fictional elements in my chapter
to make it more immersive and interesting for the reader. I could have
also read more historical fiction books to improve the depth of my
knowledge of historical fiction.
