This manual describes how to replace an X, Y or Z motor on a L1810-2 laser cutter.

3 Procedure
1. Disconnect the machine form the main power line by switching off the main power
switch.

3.1 X Motor
The X motor (1) is located on the back of the top beam.

1. Use the universal cross key to unlock the back cover (1) and press both tabs (2) to
remove it.

2. Disconnect the power and encoder cable from the motor.

3. Remove the screws that hold the motor in the bracket

4. Remove the motor and the belt.

5. Apply a small amount of Loctite 242 on the tip of the 4 bolts (M3x14).

6. Take the new motor and install the included ‘X Motor Mount’.

7. Install the correct pulley, mind the orientation! Apply a small amount of Loctite on the
set screws and tighten them. Make sure one of the set screws is located above the flat
side of the shaft.

8. Install the motor and belt. Use the 5 bolts but do not completely tighten them!

9. Reconnect the power and encoder cable.

10. Perform the calibrations listed in chapter 4 Calibrations

3.2 Y Motors
There are 2 Y motors (5) in a gearbox assembly located on the right side of the machine.

The primary motor (1) has an encoder, the secondary (2) doesn’t.

1. Use the universal cross key to unlock the cover (1) and press both tabs (2) to remove
it.

2. You can also remove the top cover for easy access during the replacement, but it’s not
mandatory. Mind the monitor stand when this is installed.

3. Remove the motor.

4. Apply a small amount of the included Loctite on the tip of the 4 bolts (M3x14).

5. Take the new motor and install the included ‘Primary Y Motor Mount’.

6. Install the correct pulley, mind the orientation! Apply a small amount of Loctite on the
set screws and tighten them. Make sure one of the set screws is located above the flat
side of the shaft.

7. Install the motor and put the belt on the pulley. Use the 3 bolts but do not completely
tighten them!

8. Reconnect the power and encoder cable.

Originally this motor does not have an encoder. The replacement motor does have one but
does NOT need to be connected.

1. Disconnect the power cable from the motor.

2. Remove the 3 screws that hold the motor in the bracket.

3. Remove the motor

4. Apply a small amount of the included Loctite on the tip of the 4 bolts (M3x16).

5. Take the new motor and install the included ‘Secondary Y Motor Mount’.

6. Install the correct pulley, mind the orientation! Apply a small amount of Loctite on the
set screws and tighten them. Make sure one of the set screws is located above the flat
side of the shaft.

7. Install the motor and put the belt on the pulley. Use the 3 bolts but do not completely
tighten them!

8. Reconnect the power and DO NOT connect the encoder cable.

9. Perform the calibrations listed in chapter 4 Calibrations.

3.3 Z Motor (Conveyor)
The Z (conveyor) motor (5) is located inside the conveyor system at the front of the
machine.

1. Remove the front cover.

2. Remove the marked bolts and remove both the front side covers.

3. Remove 3 planks:
Pull the both sides of the conveyor plank outward to remove it from the outside belts.

Slide the plank to the left to unhook it from the middle belt.

4. Move the conveyor until you can access the motor assembly.

5. Disconnect the motor and encoder cable from the motor.

6. Unscrew the 4 screws to remove the motor from the machine.

7. Unscrew the 4 bolts to remove the motor and gearbox assembly from the plate.

8. Unscrew the 4 bolts to carefully remove the gearbox.

9. Unscrew the 2 bolts to remove the gearbox base.

10. Loosen the 2 setscrews to remove the pinion from the motor shaft.

11. Unscrew the 4 bolts to remove the bracket from the motor.

12. Apply a small amount of Loctite 242 on the 4 bolts (M3x12) and reinstall the bracket
on the motor. Mind the orientation!

13. Reinstall the pinion on the motor shaft. Make sure one of the setscrews is on top of
the flat spot on the motor shaft.

10. Apply a small amount of Loctite 243 on the 2 bolts and install the gearbox base.

11. Carefully reinstall the gearbox on the base plate with the 4 screws.

12. Reinstall the motor and gearbox assembly on the plate.

13. Reinstall the plate on the machine.

14. Align the gears by moving the motor assembly left and right.

15. Raise or lower the motor assembly so that the gears have no play.

16. Reconnect the encoder and power cable.

17. Reassemble the machine.
