Why a training centre should be accredited by The Nautical Institute

• You will have approval to deliver to the biggest pool of customers.


• You will be accredited by a company (The NI) that has set up a benchmark in the maritime
industry, having managed the Scheme for more than 30 years and having issued almost 30,000
DP Certificates.
• You will be accredited to offer DP Courses based on a scheme which is robust, tested,
recognised and accepted worldwide.
• You will receive the NI’s largest discount on publications (Up to 40 percent).
• You will participate in a scheme which is managed by The Nautical Institute and is endorsed
by the DPTEG comprising of all major stake holders such as IADC, ICS, IMCA, ISOA and OCIMF.
• Your ideas on improvements to the Scheme will be passed on to DPTEG for consideration and
you will have access to DPTEG minutes.
• Your accreditation will have a validity of 3 years.
• Your audit will be supported by the engagement of independent auditors and consultants,
• You will be re-accredited on a three-yearly cycle to ensure that you maintain the highest
standards.
• You will receive on-line support through the NI Alexis Platform.
• You will be eligible for funded assistance to regional meetings.
• You will receive support throughout the auditing process and beyond, while your
accreditation remains valid with a world-wide network of technical and administrative
support.

What steps will a training centre take to be accredited for the first time

You will initially receive the following from the NI:-


• Accreditation Application
• Accreditation Agreement
• Confidentiality Agreement
• Plagiarism Contract
• Account Holder Details (for the Contact Person)
• Email Invite to upload documents in the NI “Share File” system.

Before the Audit


• Application and other forms to be filled up to register the request and generate a Customer
Number in OOMI, NI Alexis Platform and Test Reach On-Line Examination Systems.
• All documents related to the audit must be uploaded into the respective folders and sub
folders in the NI ShareFile System 3 months before the agreed audit date for a pre-audit check
by auditors. (Shorter lead-time may be considered in exceptional cases.)
• You will need to check DP instructor approval procedures and show evidence of instructor
requirements being met. Refer to Annex 4 of the Accreditation Standards.
• On request, The NI may grant approval to run test courses (maximum two) before the audit.
• Logbooks may be ordered for issuance to students taking their test Induction Course and for
other subsequent courses.
• You will need to agree audit costs. A guidance page with expected expenses is enclosed.

Audit
• You will need to be delivering a Simulator Course at the time of the audit. (STR, Revalidation
and Shuttle Tanker Courses are alternatives if a centre should choose these courses)
• Two auditors (for Admin and Technical Audits) will be made available for the audit.
• The scope of the audit will be compliant to all the requirements outlined in The Accreditation
Standard.

After the Audit


• The audit report will be discussed with the auditee.
• The formal accreditation report will be generated from The NI based on the audit report.
• In the event there are no non-conformities or requirements a full term 3-year licence will be
issued.
• In the event there are non-conformities or requirements a temporary licence will be issued.
The non-conformities or requirements must be closed within the validity of the temporary
licence.
• Your centre will be added to the list of accredited training centres on the NI website.

Guidance, Estimated Costs for an Audit (Effective from 1st January 2023)

• Audit Days: 2 Auditors at £1067 per day per Auditor for two days (IF additional audit required
for STR, Shuttle Tanker, Revalidation or Oil Spill Response Courses, additional audit days at
rates specified will apply).
• Travel Days: 2 Auditors at £1067 per day for total amount of travel time. (Generally, 2 days,
for Asia and Australasia it could be more than 2 days)
• Pre-audit check of documents and post-audit reporting, half day each by each auditor,
totalling 2 days at £1067 per day for Induction and Simulator courses. Additional, for more
courses.
• Travel costs, (taxi/flights etc.)
• Hotel costs (and meals as required).
• Others, as required.
• Annual DPTEG Fees £1800, payable at time of audit, pro-rated if applicable.

Information on other costs related to DP:


Cost of DP Logbooks £90 each.
Cost of DPVM Logbooks £50 each.
Cost of Revalidation Logbooks £40 each
Online application for Initial DP certification £190
Online application for Revalidation £ 179
Online application for DPVM £75
Online Test fee: £45 per candidate

Example:
For a centre in Europe looking for a first-time accreditation of the Induction and Simulator Course,
the following typical expenses may be accrued. (Travel days may differ based on location of centre).
Pre-Audit check: ½ day each x 2 auditors = 1 day
Post-audit Reporting: ½ day each x 2 auditors =1 day
Actual audit time: 2 days each x 2 auditors = 4 days
Travel days (Two way): assume 2 days each x 2 auditors= 4 days (additional days for the Far East or
America region)
Total days for two auditors 10 days x £ 1067 = £10,670.00
DPTEG Annual Fees £ 1800
Total £ 12,470 plus Additional Costs such as airfares, hotel, transportation, meals, visa costs etc

Settlement of Invoices

All payments to be made to The Nautical Institute under this Agreement shall be made in cleared
funds, without any deduction or set-off and free and clear of and without deduction for or on account
of any taxes, levies, imports, duties, charges, fees and withholdings of any nature now or hereafter
imposed by any governmental, fiscal or other authority save as required by law. If the training provider
is compelled to make any such deduction, it will pay to The Nautical Institute such additional amounts
as are necessary to ensure receipt by The Nautical Institute of the full amount which it would have
received but for the deduction.

Usage of NI Accreditation Logo

The correct logo to be used for Accredited Course Certificates issued by you should be:

This logo must not be used for any other purpose, nor should any other logo of The Nautical Institute
be used in lieu.
