1. Hunger is a powerful emotion. It can make or break a person. But hunger may not be always
associated with food; it can be for fame, money, power, etc. Explain the statements with
reference to the young seagull and Nelson Mandela.
2. In the proposal, Natalya and Lomov lose their temper on trivial issues. It shows their poor
communication skills and the need for anger management. The inverse is gtrue for Amanda
who hides and suppresses her anger in her heart. Suggest some ways that can help all of
them and others maintaining a cordial relationship with the other people around them.
3. Our attitude towards a circumstance evokes different responses – either positive or negative.
With reference to the poem- Dust of Snow bring out the importance of the right attitude in
life. How did Mijbil , the otter respond to the changing circumstances in its life? Analyse with
reference to the poem, ‘Dust of Snow’ and the story- ‘Mijbil the Otter’.
4. Read the extracts given below and comment on the difference in the nature of help both the
characters of these stories received.

5. ‘The mind is its own place, it can make heaven out of hell or hell out of heaven’. Justify the
statement by citing examples from the story- Footprints without feet.
6. How are Anne Frank from the chapter- From the Diary of Anne Frank and Valli from the
chapter Madam rides the Bus, similar in character?
7. Rushing to a conclusion without going into details may lead to chaos and failure. Elaborate
this with reference to the Martian invasion in the chapter- The Book that Saved the Earth.
8. Fear and lack of confidence stop one from achieving their goals and hamper one’s life. Both
the seagull in ‘His First Flight’ and the black people in South Africa in Nelson Mandela : Long
Walk to Freedom’ initially suffered from this. Do you agree? How did they overcome these
two traits? How did this help them finally achieve their goals? Write your answer as a
speech.
