Secondary evidence: Investigate the effect of environmental conditions on water uptake in a

plant shoot
The word equation for photosynthesis is:
Carbon dioxide + water  glucose + oxygen (in the presence of sunlight, which would provide
light and energy)
The distance moved by the bubble in the potometer is more for the set up with greater light
intensity because the water uptake in plants increase as the light intensity increases, this means
that the rate of respiration increases. This happens because more reactant molecules will have the
necessary activation energy for a reaction to occur. Therefore, the rate of the reaction increases,
compared to the control , which is kept in the dark.

As seen above, different wavelengths of light also affects the rate of water uptake and hence, the
rate of transpiration. Red light typically stimulates and enhances the rate of water uptake in
plants due to its role in photosynthesis and activation of stomatal opening mechanisms, while
green light has been observed to moderately inhibit water uptake as it's less efficiently absorbed
by chlorophyll, reducing photosynthetic activity and stomatal conductance.
