What is Digital Arts?

Digital Art is an artistic work or practice
using digital technologies as essential part of creation
or presentation process.

Seeing beautiful things around us make us aware of the importance of art elements and principles
in our life. It inspires us to create things using our own imagination.
Line is a point or a dot drawn continuously, it can be either straight or curve line. When group together, it
produces a beautiful picture. By using the right lines and putting them into the point of emphasis, balance,
or proportion, we can form a wonderful figure or composition.

Everything around us has a shape. These different shapes make our

world an interesting and beautiful place to live in. They may have
regular shapes like the circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and oval.
Shapes are made when both ends of lines meet or close. Form is
another term for shape.
Some objects may be rough or smooth to touch; others may be hard
or soft; still others may be flat or wrinkled. The different surface
qualities of the objects are what we call texture. Texture adds
beauty and magic to the things seen in our daily life. It can be seen
and felt in natural objects and in art works.
Many things around us show patterns of movement, our life itself is
a pattern. Because of rhythm, simple things become pleasing and
beautiful to look at. Rhythm is a principle of art which deals with
regular, uniform, and related movement of lines, forms, shapes, and
texture.
Logos are images, texts, shapes, or a combination of the three that depict the name and purpose of a
business, product, trademark, etc.

Before the widespread introduction of new technologies, most

artists expressed their creative ideas through paper and pen (hand-
drawn) but at present, designers may now create symbols directly
and immediately through digital process.
A well-designed logo makes an impact on our eyes and
minds. These logos can be made through the use of new
technology. Different applications can be found in our computer or
even in our gadgets like smartphone and tablets.
REMEMBER
Art elements and principles such as lines, shapes, color, texture, balance, and emphasis are still
applied even with the use of technology.

Nowadays, art processes like drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture can be done through digital
devices such as cellphone, tablet and computers installed with software. (Communication) software is a
program and other operating information used by a computer.

There are softwares designed to create digital art.

Inkscape, MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, and CorelDraw are some of these examples.

Traditional Drawing Digital Drawing

Both of these designers are experts but who will the first one to finish in designing a logo the
traditional logo designer or the digital logo designer? Why?
Utilize your art skills using new technology software (Paint/PowerPoint) to create your personal
logo as visual representation that can be used as a product, brand, or trademark.

Logo design must be a unique concept based on

specific design requirements. The strategic use of
colors, fonts, and other elements should be there in the
logo. But it should also be a scalable, versatile, and
memorable design.
New technology has provided logo designers more
opportunities to be productive. It allows them to adopt methods that deliver better results. It has become a
unique and valuable resource to create logos digitally.
• A Logo designer can print and scan designs quickly.
• Use the internet to search, post, blog ideas, or consult experts
• Edit or make changes in the logo size, fonts, colors, text, or image etc.

Creating logos digitally is not just for experts. Digital logo creation is is for anyone who is
interested to learn from its basic concepts.

1. Visualize and sketch ideas - no designer has ever been

faulted for sketching too much. When ideas present
themselves, sketch them immediately. Just let your
creativity flow naturally. It is alright if pinpointing what
you really like takes a long time. Often, the best solutions
come from the least

2. Scan to digitize or make the image appear on the

computer screen
- scan the sketch to a flash drive as a digital image.
A scanner enables you to incorporate in your digital logos
real world sketches and drawings that you have made. A
scanner is an essential tool to all logo designers who need
to alter and enhance their designs digitally.

3. Get started with image programs - many drawings and
image software programs are available to create digital logos.
Some programs are downloadable or open source (Photo

Lesson 4 What is Logo

TARGET
At the end of this lesson, learners are able to:
 recognize the ideas in creating logo;
 create personal or class logo as visual representation that can be used as a
product, brand or trademark; and
 promote one’s skill in creating personal or business logo.

Study this picture:

 Are
you

familiar with the logo?

 Where do we usually find it?

 Have you already bought the product?

 What was the reason you bought the product?

The picture above is the logo of Nestle, we usually see them in some of our common products at
home, such as milk, energy drinks and etc. Nestle is an example of a business logo.
Based on the logo above. Nestle is an example of a business logo, it is a Swiss product that
ventures around the world. But before Nestle became a successful brand, they first studied how they can
invite their consumers to buy the products.
And the logo is one of their strategies. So, in creating a logo, we should put together symbols that
represents a deeper meaning.
The name Nestle is adapted from the family name of the owner Henri Nestle. What you can see in
the logo is a nest with the mother bird and two young birds.
The nest means “family”. The mother bird is feeding her baby birds represents a mother taking
care of her infant. The Nestle company was originally an infant cereal product in which they aim to
