VISION-MISSION STATEMENT

The School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) is envisioned as an institution for
excellence in Teacher and Liberal Arts Education committed to the CICM mission of education of
“missio et excellentia” in the formation and training of competent, creative, socially-involved
professionals imbued with Christian Spirit.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

Three to five years after graduation, graduates of the BS Psychology Program are expected to:
a. apply professional knowledge and skills in evidence-based psychological practice under the
supervision of a licensed Psychology Professional as necessary in educational, clinical and
industrial-organizational settings;
b. practice Christian Spirit values, empathic understanding, and compassionate caring while
being guided by professional ethics in the delivery of psychological services in educational,
clinical, and industrial-organizational settings;
c. participate in pursuing creative, novel ideas by utilizing decision-making and critical
thinking skills using a variety of resources and digital tools in the Psychology practice; and

d. demonstrate responsive skills and social responsibility while providing or assisting in


psychological assessment and interventions, or implementing mental health programs with
due regard for the dignity and inherent worth of all human beings.

PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES (PLOs)
At the end of the program, the would-be Psychologists are expected to:

1. engage in lifelong learning to keep abreast of the developments and trends in the practice of
psychology;
2. integrate scientific reasoning to interpret psychological phenomena;
3. examine arguments about established principles in psychology by evaluating and
interpreting evidence-based studies from a variety of perspectives;
4. evaluate biological, psychological, and social foundations of typical and atypical behavior and
mental processes;
5. demonstrate critical thinking to evaluate theories, principles, concepts, and skills in
psychology;
6. demonstrate effective communication skills, orally and in writing in English and Filipino, to
convey research findings, psychological concerns, and issues;
7. use appropriate research methods in the design, data analysis, and interpretation of
psychological research that will contribute to knowledge- building;
8. appraise the established principles in psychology through an understanding of sociocultural diversity
and societal inequality in the inquiry and analysis of psychological issues
9. apply psychological theories, principles, concepts, and skills in the context of psychological
assessment, psychological programs, and psychological interventions as a way of addressing the clients’
issues, both personal and social;
10. exhibit social understanding and interpersonal competence essential for the appropriate and ethical
delivery of psychological service;
11. apply professional, social, and ethical responsibility in the use of psychological theories and methods;
12. apply principles in Psychology in one’s personal development and professional practice by integrating
the knowledge gained about Filipino cultural heritage.
13. demonstrate adequate self-awareness that allows for an accurate and objective psychological
evaluation to work effectively and independently in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams;
14. practice one’s capability for self-reflection and independent learning in graduate education in
Psychology and/or in the professional practice of Psychology; and
15. practice Christian values in their personal and professional endeavors as Louisians in the service of
the CICM mission.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
After completing and passing all the required courses of the BS Psychology Program, graduates are expected to take
the licensure examination for psychometricians.

Job opportunities for graduates of BS Psychology is diverse. They could be licensed psychometricians (RPM) who can
work in the academe, industrial and clinical settings. In school/academe settings, they can be employed as teachers or
professors teaching psychology, behavioral and social science related courses; they can be school psychometricians
and school guidance advocates, research assistants, school guidance counselors, Human Resource assistants in the
school HR Offices, school mental health advocates.

In the industry setting, they can be Human Resource practitioners, industry mental health advocates, company
psychometrician, company managers.

In the clinical setting, they can be assistants to licensed psychologists (RPsy)/counselors (RGC, community mental
health advocates.

They can also pursue further studies in medicine, law, management, and other human service-related programs, allied
health services, etc.

With further specialized training, graduates of BS Psychology may pursue specializations in Psychology, such as clinical,
counseling, developmental, educational, social, industrial/organizational, etc.
