The GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) welding process was first
developed in the late 50’s but its use was not adopted by the
pipeline industry due to problems with pipe quality and fit up

Two types of acceptance criteria exist for AUT on pipeline girth welds:

◦ CSA Z662 - CSA Z662 is the Canadian Standard for Oil and Gas Pipeline
Systems.
