PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT’S MURALS

Alright We are now going to the Philippine President’s Murals. The Philippine president’s mural,
it’s already in the name. This is where you could see the murals of our former presidents. It is
built to show and to feature their honor in the Philippines.
SAN AGUSTIN CHURCH
And later, we will be able to pass through San Agustin Church. San Agustin church was built in
1571 making it the oldest church in the Philippines. An amazing fact about San Agustin church,
this is the only structure left standing after World War 2. Imagine, this beautiful structure
witnessed everything.

MANILA CATHEDRAL
Not so far away you will see the Maila cathedral. Manila cathedral is very significant to our
fellow Catholic Filipino. This church represent as the main Roman catholic church here in the
Philippines. Manila cathedral actually been through a lot. It was built in 1571, but got destroyed
by and earthquake, once again rebuild, caught to a fire incident. Rebuild again, another
earthquack, rebuild once again, theres this bombing incident and rebuild again.

FORT SANTIAGO
Does anyone ever visited fort Santiago before? Who haven’t yet?
For those who haven’t visited fort Santiago yet, do you have any idea or expectations?
Yes? Alright

A little background about fort Santiago, Fort Santiago was build in 1571. It has been the
headquarters of the Spanish military for 3 centuries. And this was build to protect Manila and to
prevent oversess invasions. You will be able to see their the plaza, the baracks, and the dungeon
that serves as the prison back then. And fort Santiago holds a significant role and historical
importance because this is where our national hero, dr. jose rizal imprisoned and spend his last
days before his execution in Bagumbayan, which are knows as the Luneta park now.

INSIDE FORT SANTIAGO


Rizal Shrine:
This museum is dedicated to the Philippine national hero, José Rizal, who was imprisoned here
before his execution in 1896. The shrine houses artifacts, documents, and memorabilia related to
Rizal's life and works, providing insight into his role in the Philippine struggle for independence.
Baluarte de San Diego
: A well-preserved bastion within the fort, Baluarte de San Diego offers panoramic views of the
surrounding area, including the Pasig River and Intramuros. Visitors can explore its lush gardens

Plaza Moriones:
This public square within Fort Santiago serves as a venue for cultural events, performances, and

Dungeons:
Located underground, the dungeons of Fort Santiago once served as prison cells for political
prisoners and insurgents. Visitors can tour these somber chambers, gaining insight into the harsh
conditions endured by those who opposed Spanish rule.

 Named After a President: Roxas Boulevard is named after Manuel Roxas, the fifth
President of the Philippines and the first President of the independent Third Philippine
Republic
 Before it was renamed Roxas Boulevard, the thoroughfare was known as Dewey
Boulevard. Admiral George Dewey, the American naval officer who defeated the Spanish
fleet in the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War in 1898.
