Regarding the GRFP rebars in technical points, please note the following below as summary: -

 There’s no application with SBC codes for the GFRP rebars, accordingly the ACI 440.1 considered.

 GRFP has strength reduction factor (environmental factor) almost equal to 0.7 with the Glass FRP rebars, make

strength not far from normal rebar sections.

 GRFP strength sections capacities less by 64.0 % than provided by normal rebars.

 GRFP has low elasticity modulus , no ductility and low ability for bending.

 GRFP is very limited due to its failure mode (concrete crushing failure) which is not recommended at all, the GFRP

doesn’t yield.

 GRFP has a higher minimum reinforcement ratio of 64%, ACI codes recommend double the normal rebar value.

 GRFP compressive strength is has significantly low strength, must be ignored with design (limited type function of

members)

 GRFP has Low performance with serviceability design which may control the design (displacement & deflection).

 GRFP has low seismic resistance due to its low ductility which makes the section brittle with more concrete cracks.

On other hand, we have some limited advantages such as:

 Corrosion resistance.

 Transparent to magnetic fields and Radar.

 Non-conductivity of electrical and thermal.

Conclusion:
The GRFP rebars are not recommended and have no added value for residential/normal buildings, otherwise some

special application require high thermal/chemical/magnetic resistance GRFP rebars will be effective.
Below are some detailed comparisons as describing for the above:
